Tattoos are still a taboo subject for a lot of people - some love them, some hate them. However, it seems that the act of body art has more uses than just making your skin look pretty.

Although getting a tattoo or two must definitely toughen up your threshold of pain, it would seem that getting a tattoo also has the unlikely effect and benefit of boosting your immune system.

The American Journal of Human Biology has published a article that explains that getting inked inoculates the immune system and heightens its system.

So, possibly forget about your next flu shot and instead get that pretty little wrist tattoo you’ve been planning for ages?

From May to December 2012, data was collected from three tattoo studios with 24 women and five men, aged 18 to 47, taking part.

Participants were measured on a number of variables including number of tattoos, years since first tattoo and number of tattoo sessions. All of which concluded that getting skin art hardens and protects features against sickness.

With the growing popularity of tattoos since the 1970s and now this discovery who knows where the future of tattoos will go.

Although, let’s all not mindlessly jump on the tattoo bandwagon: We don’t want to end up on E4’s Tattoo Fixers getting a Jedward tattoo covered up.
