'The View' co-hosts say Ben Carson is 'not in the right place' following 'Oreo' comment

The co-hosts of The View went in on Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson on Wednesday’s show, accusing him of not being good at his job following his recent gaffe at a House Financial Services Committee meeting.

Carson became the subject of ridicule after he publicly confused the real estate acronym REO – meaning real estate-owned – with Oreo cookies during testimony on Tuesday.

“Listen man, just get out of there. You gotta get out of HUD,” said Whoopi Goldberg.

“He is just not placed well here” said co-host Sunny Hostin. Hostin revealed that she and her husband, surgeon Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, have a personal relationship with Carson and view him as a leader in surgery, but not in his Cabinet role.

Hostin went on to say that she felt Carson isn’t serving the people he’s supposed to be helping. “These are people that need his help, that need him, and he’s turning his back on them” she said.

Many viewers on Twitter agreed with Hostin:

Carson did have his share of defenders, and some who felt the panelists were being too harsh:

Co-host Joy Behar took things a step further when she tried to explain why Carson supports President Trump.

“He’s under the influence of ‘Donald Svengali,’ who has already created this cult of mentally crazy people.” She added, “Everyone who believes Donald Trump I believe has to look a little closer.”

Carson defended his comments at the hearing during a Fox Business Network interview on Wednesday, accusing Democrats of using tactics from the book Rules for Radicals to embarrass him.

“If you read Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, that is exactly what they’re doing,” Carson told Fox Business Network.
