The Voice: Final Preview
The remaining members of Team Ricky, Will and George take to the stage one more time tomorrow night, as the final The Voice final on the BBC brings the series to an end.
No-one from Team Paloma, obviously, because Paloma, let’s be fair, got a bit confused with the whole process and left her best singer out of her final 3. Yes, Paloma, you did. Deano, based on the last performance he did, was the only one capable of challenging Kevin and Jolan.
And next year, if you’re back, you really need to stop with the “oh, if I’d seen you I’d have turned” comments, because apart from being extremely annoying THAT’S KIND OF THE WHOLE POINT *sighs*
It could easily have been George with two in the final, had he taken through Leighton, but instead we settled just for Cody, one of the few true originals in the show this year (Deano was another. Seriously Paloma, we need to talk). Cody’s strong vocal matches her uniqueness, and she got the audience rocking with her version of Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain.
Kevin has been Mr. Consistent all the way through, his previous experience really tells. I do like to see effort and passion though, and clearly so do the rest of the audience, as Adele’s Rolling in the Deep saw him safely into the final.
The surprise for me was Lydia, but she thoroughly deserved it with her performance of I’ll Be There showing her full, impressive range. Not one I was previously rooting for, but a powerhouse performance, and judging by the audience reaction, a definite contender.
Jolan made a real statement of intent, taking on Purple Rain. Note perfect, playing the guitar and showing a very nice line in cute dimples.
Singing with their coaches, Kevin and Jolan did as instructed and “Bossed It” with Ricky on The Power of Love (thankfully not the Jennifer Rush one) both so natural and comfortable - Jolan credited the confidence given him by legendary front man Ricky.
Team George sang Culture Club’s Victims, rather gospelly, and then let Cody loose; Vangelis kept it pure.
Piece of my Heart was a tad predictable from the ladies, though Jordan shone, and Lydia again out sang Lyrikal in Good Times.
The discarded four had no chance. Sadly, Jordan didn’t live up to the previous week, Lyrikal failed to convince again and Heather needs more time to develop. Vangelis was beautifully understated but not outstanding.
Listening to my heart and head, I think it’ll be another win for Team Ricky. But which one?
