New theater in Staunton performs its first show for the holidays

'The 12 Dates of Christmas' marks Silver Line Theatre Exchange's first professional production in new black box performance space in downtown Staunton.

STAUNTON – There's a new theater in town to usher in the holiday season.

Silver Line Theatre Exchange presents "The 12 Dates of Christmas" by Ginna Hoben, opening Dec. 14 at 211 N. Lewis Street.

This heartwarming one-woman play offers a hilarious and modern alternative to the old standards of the holiday season.

The performance will be the theater's first professional production showcasing talent from regional performers and directors, as well as up-and-coming talent from Mary Baldwin University and University of Virginia.

Actor Denise Stewart and director Colleen Kelly spin a delightful 80-minute telling of Mary, who, after seeing her fiance kiss another woman at the televised Thanksgiving Day Parade, completely falls apart — just in time for the holidays.

Over the next year, she stumbles back into the dating world, where “romance” ranges from weird and creepy to absurd and comical. It seems nothing can help Mary’s growing cynicism, until an unexpected friendship brings a new outlook on life and love.

Performances run Dec. 14-17, 21-23, 28-30 starting 7:30 p.m. at the Warehouse on 211 N. Lewis St. The show is intended for mature audiences.
