One year after flooding devastated counties throughout Eastern Kentucky, the recovery continues.
Heavy rainfall in the region caused flash flooding over the evening and night hours of July 27, 2022. Forty-five people died as a result, while homes, businesses, churches, roadways and bridges were destroyed.
“This is going to be yet another event that’s going to take not months, but likely years for many families to rebuild and recover from,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshearsaid at the time.
While the deadly destruction caused by the flooding remains conspicuous in Eastern Kentucky, business have reopened, new homes have been constructed and many infrastructure repairs continue.
Then-and-now images show the devastation and recovery.
