The National Merit Scholarship program is an annual academic competition for recognition and potential college undergraduate scholarships. The goal of this program is to identify and honor exceptionally able students and encourage them to pursue rigorous college studies. The competition is open to all U.S. high school students.

This year Theodore Roosevelt High School is home to the following recognized students:

Duncan Bryk is a Semi-Finalist. His parents are Jeff and Katherine Bryk of Kent. He will move on in the competition and apply to become a Finalist.

Yulan Wang is a Commended Student. Her parent is Zhu Jiamfeng of Stow.

Jayanta Datta is a Commended Student. His parents are Rekha and Bansidhar Datta of Kent.

The National Merit Scholarship selects designees based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference.
