Theology with a Twist to meet on Tuesday in Kutztown [Religion Digest]

Dec. 31—Theology with a Twist presents "Changing Christian Landscape" with Dr. Lee C. Barrett, professor of Systematic Theology at Lancaster Seminary, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St., Kutztown.

The religious environment of the United States is changing rapidly and dramatically. Because of accelerating ideological polarization, secularism and religious indifference, many of the faithful are worried about the future of the church. The discussion will explore the ways in which new styles of being the church may be necessary to grapple with our shifting cultural context.

----Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Ave., Laureldale, will hold its first First Saturday Service next Saturday at 5 p.m. This is a once-a-month service that is a traditional/contemporary hybrid.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 4125 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will hold in-person worship Sunday at 9 a.m. with Holy Communion along with special music. The service also will be livestreamed on Facebook.

—As of Sunday, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Robesonia, and Zion United Church of Christ, Womelsdorf, will be functioning as one congregation. Worship will be at 9:15 a.m. After the congregation is incorporated by the state of Pennsylvania in approximately six months, it will be the United Church of Christ of Robesonia. A celebratory worship service will be held on Jan. 8 at 10:15 a.m. A closing worship for both congregations will be held next Saturday at 10:15 a.m. The annual pork and sauerkraut Meal will be served Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

—St John's Gernant's Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant's Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with Holy Communion, in Memorial Hall, 12 Gernant's Road, which is handicap accessible. A piano solo will be presented by Shirley Breininger, "Joseph Dearest, Joseph Mine." Shirley Breininger will be the musician for the service.

—Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will hold two worship services on Sunday, each including the Holy Eucharist: at 8, a said service (no music) and at 10, a service with music for families. At 9 in the parlor, adult forum will feature Randall Fegley presenting "The World of Moroccan Women." Parking is available in the Abe Lincoln Hotel parking garage and the M&T Bank lot, both located off of Washington Street. There is also parking beside the church on Court Street for those with disabilities or who need assistance. On Thursday at 11, a Morning Prayer service from the Book of Common Prayer will be held in the church sanctuary. —Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold an in-person worship service of lessons and carols, with Holy Communion, on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will hold a worship service of lessons and carols Sunday at 9:30 a.m., livestreamed on YouTube (St. John's ELC Boyertown). —Kissinger's Church, 715 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, will hold an Hour of Prayer on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend to submit prayer requests and to pray for others.

—Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with Holy communion. The service will be livestreamed on Reformation's Facebook page and may be viewed live or later at www.Reformationlutheran.org under worship videos.
