Theology with a Twist scheduled for Tuesday at the Kutztown Tavern

Dec. 3----Theology with a Twist will present "The Hidden History of Christmas Carols" on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St., Kutztown. The Rev Kim Berenotto and Marji Hughes will explore history and traditions behind our favorite holiday songs, and whether those songs actually reflect the Christmas story we know from scripture. —In addition to the weekly worship service with communion at 9:30 a.m., St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ, 591 N. Church Rd., Lower Heidelberg Township, will present the first of this year's Annie Gaul Concerts with the annual Hanging of the Greens at 7 p.m. This program, held in the historic and beautifully decorated sanctuary, will feature carols, lessons and anthems presented by the church choirs.

—Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, will hold Advent Worship at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, with Holy Communion offered at both services. The 10:30 service will be livestreamed on Reformation's Facebook page and may be viewed live or later at under worship videos. Reformation will host Advent Vespers with Holden Evening Prayer on Wednesdays beginning with a covered-dish meal (meats provided) at 5:45 p.m. in the parish hall followed by the candlelight service in the sanctuary at 7 p.m. The Ringgold Band Christmas Concert (free-will offering) is Sunday at 2 p.m., followed by a reception in the parish hall.

—Calvary United Church of Christ, 1231 Route 100, Washington Township, will hold a Free Community Give Away today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include coats, gloves, hats, scarves, toys, games, books, Christmas decorations, lunch to go and more. Everyone is welcome. There will be in-person worship for the second Sunday of Advent at 9:30 a.m. with guest vocalist Debi Wahl. There will be a Christmas shopping event next Saturday from 8-11 a.m. The upper-level Felowship Hall will have a 25-cent sale and the lower level will have an indoor flea market.

—St John's Gernant's (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant's Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Hall, with Holy Communion. The church is handicap accessible. The Rev. Fran Merkel, pastor, and Fern Kulp will perform a flute/piano duet called "I Wonder As I Wander." A congregational meeting will be held with the topic: Budget and Board Members Elections. Bible study will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 4125 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will hold in-person worship Sunday at 9 a.m. with Holy Communion along with special music. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook. The Christmas Cantata is Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.

—Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township will hold in-person worship service Sunday at 10:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. Also, an outdoor Lenten Vespers will be held from 5 to 5:20 p.m. for the lighting of the Advent Wreath.

—St. John's Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, will hold a Blue Christmas bereavement service next Saturday at 3 p.m. This service is designed for those who are coping with the loss of a loved one. The theme is "Hope to Cope," and this service is a beautiful way to make space during the advent season to prepare for the holidays.

—St. John's Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m., livestreamed on YouTube (St. John's ELC Boyertown). Children's Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. Register at Handel's Messiah, sponsored by St. John's and performed by Reading Choral Society, wll be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Boyertown High School. Tickets are available at Director's Big Band Christmas Concert will be held next Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. John's. Admission is free. —Maidencreek Church, 261 Main St., Maidencreek Township, will hold a hybrid worship service on the second Sunday of Advent at 9 a.m., with Holy Communion. Music includes a selection by Youth Chimes and steel drums; piano selections by Tallulah Johnson, Eliza Bailey and Connor Rarick; and Senior Choir anthem with Kelli Rosenberger on flute. There will be a time to reflect on loss, to light a candle and name your pain.

—Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading, welcomes Dawn Main as guest flautist at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday. There will also be a congregational budget meeting and coffee hour at 9 a.m.between the 8 and10:30 services. After the second service, the Rev. Steve Ohnsman, pastor, is offering a free Introduction to Preaching class from noon to 2 p.m.

—Zion's Lutheran Church, 354 Zions Church Road, Perry Township, will celebrate the second Sunday in Advent at 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion and lighting of an Advent candle. Quilts made by Zion's Happy Knotters for Lutheran World Relief will be blessed. The service will be in person, on Facebook Live and the church website. Sunday school begins at 9:15. Salvation Army Tree new and unwrapped gifts are to be returned Sunday for Monday pickup.

—Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will hold two worship services Sunday, each with Holy Eucharist: at 8, a said service (no music) and at 10, a service with music for families. Masks are optional. At 9 in the parlor, Valerie Eaglechaser McCleaf will present an adult forum on "Native American Spirituality." Parking is available at the Abe Lincoln parking garage and the B&T Bank lot, both located off of Washington Street. Parking is also available beside the church on Court Street for those with disabilities or who need assistance. —Kissinger's Church, 715 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, will hold an Hour of Prayer on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend to submit prayer requests and to pray for others.

—St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 W. Jackson St., Fleetwood, will have worship services Sunday at 9 and 10:30 a.m. (also online at 9), both with Holy Communion. Lighting the "Candle of Peace," reflecting on both a spiritual sense of inner peace and the plausibility of world peace.

—St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1979 Weavertown Road, Amity Township, will host a concert of Christmas music and carols on Sunday at 4 p.m. Selections will include piano and organ duets, four-hand piano arrangements and a four-hand organ duet performed by Andrew Heimel and Martha Sitler.
