There's 1 week left in the 2022 DTSF Burger Battle. Here are my top 3 picks you should try.

I swear, my iron levels have never been higher.

And I bet I'm not the only one.

Thousands of burgers have been sold in downtown Sioux Falls so far this month for the annual Burger Battle competition, with more than 13,800 votes cast on the DTSF app.

While finding the "best burger" is a highlight of the competition, the goal is to get as many people as possible in downtown during a historically slow time of year and support not only participating restaurants, but shops, attractions and bars in downtown Sioux Falls as well.

That being said, you have just one week left to try the 2022 competitors — and the competition is tough. So, here are my top three burgers that I've tried during the competition that I don't think you should miss:

Disclaimer: Like I said, I haven't eaten all the burgers, but I have chosen to eat at quite a few restaurants based on recommendations from friends and social media.

GochuJANG’S All Here Burger at JL Beers

GochuJANG's all here burger at JL Beers

Location: JL Beers, 323 S. Phillips Ave.

The GochuJANG burger was the first burger I ate for the 2022 Burger Battle competition, and it's held up well against every other competitor so far.

The burger is a fresh take on a coleslaw burger, topping their signature smash burger with a mix of shredded cabbage, cilantro, onions and gochujang sauce along with bacon and banana peppers.

While I was a little cautious biting into it, because banana peppers and gochujang can both be a little spicy if too much is used, it was just the perfect amount of kick. The bacon was cooked just right and balanced well with the refreshing crunch of the coleslaw.

Overall, the GochuJANG burger was a delicious burger that was balanced nearly perfectly and wasn't overwhelmingly heavy for a lunch break. Not to mention, the burger cost less than $10 (no side included), which makes it stand out from other competitors as well.

Raspberry Jalapeño Popper Burger at Blarney Stone Pub

Garlic meet chipotle: Raspberry Jalapeno Popper Burger at Blarney Stone for Burger Battle 2022.

Location: Blarney Stone Pub, 333 S. Phillips Ave.

Based on word of mouth, I think the Blarney Stone burger is one of the most popular and best received burgers in this year's competition.

I haven't heard anyone say they don't enjoy it, and a manager at the pub told me that they sell something like 100 burgers every lunch rush.

While it's very similar to your typical jalapeño popper burger, what really sets it apart and elevates it as a meal is the house-made raspberry chipotle jam.

Now, disclaimer: I've actually eaten the Raspberry Jalapeño Popper Burger twice.

The first time was as a reheated leftover half my husband saved for me when he ate at the pub. After reheating it, the cream cheese had melted off the burger, so I got an overwhelming heat from the jalapeño peppers and some pretty tough bacon.

I knew I had to give it a second chance if I were to rate it properly. And, man, was I right.

This is the kind of burger you have to eat in person. Even delivery/take out would risk missing out on the flavor combinations crafted by the pub cooks. The cream cheese cut the heat of the roasted jalapeno deliciously without being too heavy, allowing the bacon and fried onions a chance to come through as well. Then adding the raspberry chipotle sauce on top? I would buy that sauce by the bottle it was so delicious.

I know I'm not the only person to tell you this, but if you haven't eaten Blarney Stone's Burger Battle burger yet, you should. I'd suggest stopping in at a time outside typical lunch and dinner rushes, since the pub has been packed full most of this month at those times.

The Tuscany Burger at Chef Lance's

Location: Chef Lance's on Phillips, 431 N. Phillips Ave.

The Tuscany Burger was hands down my favorite burger I ate during the Burger Battle.

Would I order the JL Beers and Blarney Stone burgers again? Absolutely. But I think I'd eat the Tuscany Burger on a weekly basis for the rest of the year if I could.

It was a perfectly-cooked, juicy patty that I probably would have been happy to eat all on its own, topped with melty cheese and basil pesto that made my mouth water, paired with the relief of arugula, tomatoes and garlic mayo. I gushed over the burger from the second I took the first bite to the friends I was dining with, and it only got better as I ate more. The salami topping was a bonus flavor that rounded out the burger.

I'd say the only downfall was that my burger was too juicy, which I don't know if I can really identify as a fault or simply an inconvenience when you only have one napkin to use.

While some people might choose spicy flavors (and there are plenty to choose from in this year's battle), this burger was a creation of some of my all-time favorite flavors. I simply couldn't resist!

Agree with my picks? Disagree? Eat the burgers yourself, and don't forget to try the 24 other deliciously prepared burgers around downtown Sioux Falls in the next week.
