Grace Kelly's Grandson Got Married in a Beautiful Two-Day Wedding This Weekend
Just weeks after Charlotte Casiraghi said "I do" to her fiancé in the south of France, another one of Grace Kelly's grandchildren tied the knot. Louis Ducruet, the son of Monaco's Princess Stéphanie and her ex-husband Daniel Ducruet, married his former schoolmate, Marie Chevallier, this weekend.
Here's what we know about the Monaco royal family's most recent wedding.
They first wed in a private civil ceremony on Friday.
According to People, the bride and groom chose to hold the ceremony in the salons of Prince’s Palace. The civil ceremony "was essentially a private family affair," a source told the magazine.
On Saturday, they continued the celebrations with a larger religious wedding and reception.
Ducruet and Chevallier said "I do" in the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate (also sometimes called St. Nicholas Cathedral). It was the first time a member of Monaco's royal family has been married there since Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III tied the knot in the cathedral in 1956. (Both of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier's funerals were also held at the same cathedral, where they were later interned.)
Ducruet was particularly close to the late monarch. "For me it was therefore obvious to get married at the cathedral, so we will be near my grandfather, Prince Rainier III," Ducruet told Point de Vue magazine. "This will be our way of associating him with our happiness. My grandfather was a man I admired. I was very close to him."
As guests entered the cathedral, Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was played through the speakers, per People. For her part, the bride arrived in a vintage white Rolls-Royce, adorned with flowers.
The ceremony concluded with the couple laying flowers at the tombs of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier. Afterward, a reception was reportedly held at Monte Carlo Bay Hotel.
Several royal guests were in attendance.
The guest list included many senior members of Monaco's royal family. According to People, current monarch (and Ducruet's uncle) Prince Albert and his wife Princess Charlene were in attendance, as were Princess Stéphanie and Princess Caroline. His sister Pauline Ducruet joined half-sister Camille Gottlieb, who served as a bridesmaid. All three of Princess Caroline's children were there as well, including Charlotte Casiraghi and her new husband, Dimitri Rassam.
The bride wore three wedding looks over her two-day celebration.
For the civil ceremony, Chevallier chose an elegant jumpsuit by designer Rosa Clara. The same label crafted her final look, a high-low lace gown for Saturday night's reception.
But it was Pauline Ducruet, Louis's sister, who designed the dress Chevallier wore during the religious ceremony. Pauline is a graduate of Parsons School of Design, and collaborated with Atelier Boisanger to create Chevallier's wedding ensemble.
"[Pauline] was very protective of me and a little bit distant with Marie in the beginning," Louis Ducruet previously said in an interview with Hello Monaco, per People. "But finally she liked her and she even designed the wedding dress that Marie will wear for the ceremony in the cathedral."
