Thibodaux man charged with vehicular homicide, DWI in Schriever crash

A man has been charged in a November crash that resulted in a Thibodaux woman's death.

Roy David Skinner, 57, of Thibodaux, is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, driving left of center, speeding and DWI, according to jail records.

He is accused of causing the Nov. 17 crash in Schriever that killed 43-year-old Mary Thomas-Triggs, State Police said.

The crash occurred just before midnight on La. 20 near Vine Street, police said. Skinner was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia east on La. 20 and crossed the centerline before colliding with a 2003 Ford Expedition.

Skinner, who was not wearing a seat belt, was discharged from a hospital after treatment for moderate injuries, authorities said. The Expedition's driver was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.

Thomas-Triggs, a passenger in the Expedition, was wearing a seat belt but suffered severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died, police said.

The driver of the Expedition displayed signs of impairment and provided a breath sample that showed his blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit, authorities said. He was charged with DWI and driving with a suspended license.

Skinner voluntarily submitted a blood sample for analysis after the crash and was criminally charged Wednesday.
