New Thibodaux restaurant offers a relaxed environment and brunch all day, every day

Urban Eats Cafe is one of Thibodaux's newest eateries, offering a relaxing environment and brunch all day, every day.

The cafe, at 1801 Canal Blvd. in Thibodaux, is decorated in pink, flowers and fresh natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows in the dining area. Hungry guests can choose from a variety of appetizers, pasta and rice entrees, sandwiches, platters and the all-day brunch menu, which features the classic chicken and waffles as well as a sandwich version.

The restaurant opened in June and is owned by Thibodaux native Germanique Coleman. Coleman, also known as Laurie Kash, is a financial consultant, a speaker and helps other entrepreneurs with their goals. Though new to the restaurant scene, Coleman knew she wanted to bring a relaxing atmosphere to the community, a place where friends and family can enjoy a meal or hang out and check emails while sipping coffee.

"I don't have any restaurant experience. I just knew that I wanted a place, a calm and relaxing place, where we could eat some really good food," Coleman said.

One of her favorite menu items is the Kajun Bowl. The dish has Cajun rice topped with fish, grilled or fried, and a seafood sauce poured on top.

"It's so good. It's really, really good," she said.

Other dishes include brunch items such as the Special Urban Waffle — which includes your choice of Fruity Pebbles, Oreo or Cinnamon Toast Crunch toppings — Seafood Shrimp and Grits or a Pork Chop Sandwich. Urban Brunch Platters include the options of hamburger steak, shrimp, catfish, salmon, ribeye or grilled chicken, and each platter comes with your choice of two sides.

Not interested in brunch? No worries. Check out entree dishes or ask about the lunch special. BBQ chicken, baby back ribs, pastalaya, pot roast and catfish stew are among some of the recent daily specials.

Looking forward, Coleman is working to expand, starting with a larger space for the restaurant and eventually branching out with additional locations in Louisiana and nearby states.
