Thieves target Hibbett Sports on Hickory Hill Road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Another Hibbett Sports was targeted by thieves early Thursday morning.

At around 1 a.m., suspects smashed out the front door of the store in southeast Memphis on Hickory Hill Road.

Detectives say, in this case, a security guard left her post for upwards of 15 minutes for a bathroom break. During that time, the break-in happened.

As of now, there is no word on how much was taken. Thursday, the gaping hole left in the glass door was boarded up.

In a recent statement from Hibbett, they are calling what has happened at any of their stores “intolerable” and “unacceptable.” Hibbett also said they’re executing non-lethal measures, such as canines and live camera monitoring with police, to regain control.

Last week, three MPD officers got in an accident while investigating a prowler call at the Hibbett Sports on Summer Avenue.
