Adel American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Distribution

May 26-27 at Adel Fareway.

Everyone who visits the Adel Fareway on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 will be able to receive a poppy in honor of the service of military veterans from the Adel American Legion Auxiliary. All poppy donations help the ALA assist veterans, the military and their families. Inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Col. John McCrea, the custom of wearing the poppy can be traced back to WWI. The Adel American Legion Auxiliary encourages residents to wear a poppy proudly.

Perry Firefighters Association Grab-n-Go Supper

5-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 26 at 908 Willis Ave., Perry.

Perry firefighters and first responders will serve a Grab and Go Supper on Friday, May 26 in the Perry Fire Department parking lot. The menu includes hot dogs for $5, cheeseburgers or pork loin sandwiches for $6 and steak sandwiches for $10. Each sandwich comes with chips and a drink. Attendees can pull up in the fire department parking lot, pick up their order and drive on.

Dallas Center Roller Skate Rink

7-9 p.m. Friday, May 26 at Mound Park.

The Dallas Center Roller Skate Rink at Mound Park opens for the season on Friday, May 26. Wear anything summer fun to win a prize during the Blast off into Summer event. There will be games, prizes and fun for all ages. Quad and inline skates are available to use for all ages at no charge. The rink will be open from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays through August and 6-8 p.m. Fridays in September, weather permitting. Don't forget to come sporting something related to the Friday theme. Honey Creek Series Rodeo

May 27-29 Dallas County Fairgrounds, Adel.

Honey Creek Series will be hosting rodeos at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28 at the Dallas County Fairgrounds, featuring miniature bucking bulls and horses. The local American Legion will be involved and veterans will be honored at both performances. Other activities throughout the weekend include a variety of clinics, including goat tying, barrel, saddle bronc and bareback, bull riding and more. Food trucks will be available on site. Memorial Day at Iowa Veterans Cemetery

8:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a Memorial Day ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. on May 29. Gov. Kim Reynolds will make a brief appearance, followed by the keynote speaker, new Adjutant Gen. Stephen E. Osborn. The ceremony will be livestreamed at Facebook.com/IowaDepartmentofVeteransAffairs.

Memorial Day at Oakdale Cemetery

9 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Oakdale Cemetery, Adel.

The Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29 at Oakdale Cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, as no seating is available. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will not be held.

Fairview Memorial Day Program

9 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2162 Deer Ave., Perry.

Fairview's annual Memorial Day program will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29. The program will honor veterans with music, recitations and a message by Pastor Cat Stokes. Scout Troop 127 will present the flags. The program will conclude with a gun salute in the cemetery by The Rippey American Legion. Refreshments will follow in the basement. We are a handicapped accessible facility.

Memorial Day around Minburn

9:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at area cemeteries around Minburn.

The Minburn American Legion Osborne Post 99 will host Memorial Day ceremonies at area cemeteries on Monday, May 29. The ceremonies will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Cemetery, 10 a.m. at Kimrey Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery and 11 a.m. at Raccoon River Bridge. The event will conclude with a hot dog lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the food stand. Lunch donations will be used to install a dusk-to-dawn light for the American flag at the Minburn Legion Hall.

Memorial Day at Mound Park

10 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Mound Park, Dallas Center.

The community Memorial Day Observance will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29 in Mound Park. The program is in remembrance of all of our conflicts and the veterans that were affected. The American Legion and Auxiliary plan and sponsor the program. There will be a free-will lunch following the program sponsored by the Grace Brethren Church. Veterans eat free.

Perry Memorial Day Program

1 p.m. Monday, May 29 at Veterans Memorial, 8th and Bateman.

The Perry VFW Post 2060 will host a Memorial Day service at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 29 at Veterans Memorial. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

12th Annual Garage & Bake Sale

8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Friday, June 1 and 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at Faith Lutheran Church, 602 S 14th St., Adel.

Crisis Intervention Advocacy Center will hold its 12th annual garage and bake sale on June 1-2 inside the gym at Faith Lutheran Church.

Friday Fest w/ Rukkus

Free Family Friendly Fun on the First Friday of June: That’s Friday Fest at the Pattee Park Bandshell in Perry! Enjoy live music by Rukkus from 6-9:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2. Let's kick off the summer and help Rukkus celebrate 50 years with live music, inflatables and food trucks! Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets, yard games, and your own basket of refreshments (beer and wine permitted; but no glass allowed). Pack a picnic or purchase food from local vendors on site. Van Meter Raccoon River Days

June 2-3 in Van Meter.

The annual Raccoon River Days return to Van Meter on June 2-3. The event kicks off on Friday, June 2 with a hot dog meal, beverage garden, music from DJ Tim Cox, bounce houses, firehose fun, spin art and face painting. The festivities continue on Saturday, June 3 with a pancake breakfast, 5K run, parade, bags tournament, food trucks and beverage garden, pie auction, live music and fireworks. Woodward Christian Church Supper

Woodward Christian Church will host a beef burger supper during Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day on Friday, June 2. The menu will include beef burgers, potato salad, baked beans, pie and a drink. Adults are $8 and children are $4. Dine-in or carry-out. Call 515-438-2273 for pick up. Proceeds will go to support community and mission projects.

The Woodward Friends and Neighbors Day will return on June 2-3. The event kicks off on Friday, June 2 with a beef burger supper, Little Mr. and Miss Woodward crowning, BYOB beer garden and a live band, RikeR Band. The event continues on Saturday, June 3 with a vendor/craft show on Main Street, parade, carnival games and cake walk, inflatables, pie auction, a live band, fireworks and more. KidsFest

10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Perry Public Library.

Join us for the annual Perry Public Library KidsFest! This is an exciting, family-friendly, budget-friendly event to kick-off the Summer Library Program. We offer many age-appropriate activities for children like the Foam Blaster, creating bubbles, science-based discover stations, balloon twister, face painter, family photos, dunk tank, interactive cone game and a petting zoo. The Perry Volunteer Fire Department will cook pork loin sandwiches and hot dogs. Hy-Vee donates the hamburger and hotdog buns and Fareway donates the bottles of water. Also included in the lunch are a bag of chips and a cookie. The Fire Department sells lunch for $1 and is a fundraiser for them.

Artists in the Courtyard

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Soumas Court, Perry.

Experience and enjoy the art of Iowa on June 3. Atelier at 1109 presents an Artists in the Courtyard Art Show featuring local and state artists. Walk through Soumas Court and visit with artists about their craft and snag a few of your favorite unique art pieces. The event will feature artist demonstrations, kids activities, art tutorials and more. Visit the downtown galleries and shops and experience the art of Iowa. PLUS join us at the City Maintenance Building at 923 Warford St. (a short walk from the courtyard) at 11 a.m. for the unveiling of the new We Are Perry mural.

Summer High Tea

3-6 p.m. Friday, June 16 at Board and Batten, LLC, 1408 Walnut St, Dallas Center.

Following the Mother’s Day High Tea event, Board and Batten has been overwhelmed with requests to hold High Tea’s on a regular basis. Join Board and Batten from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 for its first Summer High Tea. Bring friends and family to a traditional High Tea featuring scones served with a selection of jam and cream, finger sandwiches, and pastries including petit fours, eclairs and tarts.
