Chad Morman Fundraiser

11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Friday, May 19 at Perry Fareway parking lot.

Iowa Beef Producers and Fareway are sponsoring a fundraiser for the Chad Morman family on Friday, May 19 in the Fareway parking lot. All proceeds will go to the family. The menu will include hamburgers, chips and a drink. A full meal will be $5 and just a hamburger will be $3.

Mobile Food Pantry

8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at Crossroads Church, Perry.

Crossroads Church will host a mobile food pantry from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20.

Parking Lot Fundraiser

Saturday, May 20 at Perry Hy-Vee.

An early May parking lot fundraiser benefiting the family of Chad Morman was rained out. A second fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 20 with Perry Hy-Vee and Totally Rolled Ice Cream. Join us in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot and help support the Chad Morman family.

May Bird (and Awe) Hike

8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at Kuehn Conservation Area, 32828 Houston Trail, Earlham.

DCCB is offering seasonal bird hikes as part of the Beginner to Birder Project, meant to nurture new birders or those who want to ramp up their skills. The diversity will increase each month as new birds arrive.  Binoculars and books will be provided. Registration required through the DCCB Eventbrite page.

Adel American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Distribution

May 26-27 at Adel Fareway.

Everyone who visits the Adel Fareway on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27 will be able to receive a poppy in honor of the service of military veterans from the Adel American Legion Auxiliary. All poppy donations help the ALA assist veterans, the military and their families. Inspired by the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Col. John McCrea, the custom of wearing the poppy can be traced back to WWI. The Adel American Legion Auxiliary encourages residents to wear a poppy proudly.

Honey Creek Rodeo

May 27-29 Dallas County Fairgrounds, Adel.

Honey Creek Series will be hosting rodeos at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28 at the Dallas County Fairgrounds, featuring miniature bucking bulls and horses. The local American Legion will be involved and veterans will be honored at both performances. Other activities throughout the weekend include a variety of clinics, including goat tying, barrel, saddle bronc and bareback, bull riding and more. Food trucks will be available on site. Memorial Day at Oakdale Cemetery

9 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Oakdale Cemetery, Adel.

The Adel American Legion Penoach Post 464 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29 at Oakdale Cemetery. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, as no seating is available. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will not be held.

Memorial Day around Minburn

9:30 a.m. Monday, May 29 at area cemeteries around Minburn.

The Minburn American Legion Osborne Post 99 will host Memorial Day ceremonies at area cemeteries on Monday, May 29. The ceremonies will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Cemetery, 10 a.m. at Kimrey Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery and 11 a.m. at Raccoon River Bridge. The event will conclude with a hot dog lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the food stand. Lunch donations will be used to install a dusk-to-dawn light for the American flag at the Minburn Legion Hall.

Memorial Day at Mound Park

10 a.m. Monday, May 29 at Mound Park, Dallas Center.

The community Memorial Day Observance will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29 in Mound Park at 10 a.m. The program is in remembrance of all of our conflicts and the veterans that were affected. The American Legion and Auxiliary plan and sponsor the program. There will be a free-will lunch following the program sponsored by the Grace Brethren Church. Veterans eat free.

Summer High Tea

3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at Board and Batten, LLC, 1408 Walnut St, Dallas Center.

Following the Mother’s Day High Tea event, Board and Batten has been overwhelmed with requests to hold High Tea’s on a regular basis. Join Board and Batten from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 for its first Summer High Tea. Bring friends and family to a traditional High Tea featuring scones served with a selection of jam and cream, finger sandwiches, and pastries including petit fours, eclairs and tarts.
