Things to do: Boxing, R&B and a jamboree among weekend's events in Rutherford County

There is an abundance of fun to be had with family, friends or by oneself this upcoming week in Murfreesboro. From boxing to shopping to laughing, something can be found for everyone. Be sure to check out the rest of the events below.

'Boro Old School Hip Hop and R&B Party

Join DJ Reggie Reg and Sir Wodies on Friday, July 22, for a hip-hop and R&B party. From 9 p.m. until 1 a.m., stop by the Nirvana Lounge, 1432 Memorial Boulevard, for food, drinks, music and more. This event is for ages 21 and up. Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door.

'Avenue Q'

The tony-award winning musical, "Avenue Q," will be performed Friday-Sunday, July 22-24, at Center for the Arts, 110 W. College St. in Murfreesboro. The R-rated musical is described as “Sesame Street" meets "South Park."

Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday performers and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets start at $16 and are currently on sale at boroarts.org, by calling 615-904-2787 or at the center box office.

Shabby Lane Ladies' Day Out Shopping 

Ladies are invited out to Lane Agri-Park, 315 John Rice Boulevard, for a fabulous day of shopping. On Saturday, July 23, the first 100 adult shoppers through the door will receive a free goodie bag. Come and support over 80 small businesses from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Dewdrop Jamboree

The Dewdrop Jamboree is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Washington Theatre in Patterson Park Community Center, 521 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Murfreesboro. Performers include Larry Martin, Pat Roden, Teresa Camp, Danny Bell, Hal Newman, Melissa Lemay, Rhonda Tenpenny, Allen Karl, Buddy Baker, Macy Tabor and Hunter Lott. Tickets are $10 at the door. Tristar Boxing Fight Night in the 'Boro

For $40 a ticket, watch a live pro boxing show in Murfreesboro on Saturday, July 23. At the Embassy Suites, 1200 Conference Center Boulevard, join DJ Keith Pride as Tri-Star Boxing makes its return from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. All ages are welcome.

Taste of Rutherford

For the first time ever, the annual Taste of Rutherford fundraising picnic social will be held at Oaklands Mansion, 900 North Maney Avenue. Over 22 restaurants will serve tastings of their food on Saturday, July 23. So grab a bite to eat and a drink from Mid-State Brew Crew from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. General admission tickets are $50, and children 12 and under are free.

Trek National Hot Fudge Sundae Day

Hop on a bike and ride with Trek Bicycles on Monday, July 25, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Riders will meet at the shop, ride on a local bike path for a while and end the night with free hot fudge sundaes. This event is free for all ages; however, helmets are required.

Drum Corps International

Watch the Blue Devils, the Cavaliers and several more world-class drum and bugle corps perform on Friday, July 29, from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Floyd Stadium, 1500 Greenland Drive. Tickets are sold online for $40.

Forever Abbey Road Beatles & 60s experience

Hop on down to Hop Springs, 6790 John Bragg Highway, for the best of the Beatles and sounds of the 60s with Forever Abbey Road. All ages are welcome at this indoor show on Friday, July 29. Forever Abbey Road, which is composed of four Nashville musicians, will play from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Tickets are $20.

Friday Night Live

Main Street Murfreesboro's Friday Night Live concert is set for 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 5 featuring Mix Tape. Be sure you bring your own seating — chairs and blankets — and plan to dine at one of the downtown restaurants and do a little shopping. 24/7 will close out the concert season Sept. 16.

Food truck fest

Friday Night Market in the Boro, Murfreesboro's weekly food truck fest, takes place from 5-9 p.m. each Friday through Oct. 7 at Cannonsburgh Village, 312 S. Front St. Enjoy food, shopping, music and community fun.

Summer/fall farmers markets

• The Rutherford County Farmers Market is 7 a.m. to noon each Tuesday and Friday at Lane Agri-Park, 315 John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro, through Oct. 28.

• The La Vergne Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Aug. 27 on the walking trail at Bicentennial Park next to La Vergne City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Road.

• You'll find farm-fresh, locally grown products and produce all year long at the Lascassas Farmers Market, 7684 Barlow Lane in Lascassas. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday.

• Smyrna Depot Farmers Market hours are 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Sept. 18 in the downtown Smyrna Depot area along Front Street.

• Main Street Saturday Market runs from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday on the Murfreesboro Public Square through October.

• The Eagleville Farmers Market kicks is held at the Apex Bank parking lot on Main Street from 7 a.m. to noon each Saturday through the end of August.
