Hall of Fame Comic Con is Saturday

The Hall of Fame City Comic Con is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Special guests will be featured, including professional wrestler Al Snow and Chris Claremont, whose comic book writing credits include the X-Men. Other guests are voice actors Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche.

Tickets will be available at the door: $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12; and free admission for kids under 5.

The award-winning Claremont also has written Batman and Superman storylines.

Snow's professional wrestling career includes time with Smokey Mountain Wrestling, WWE and ECW. Snow is the former WWE Hardcore champion and WWE Tag champion with Mankind. He was featured on the former MTV series "Tough Enough."

Snow is also the subject of "The Ballad of Al Snow" series by Broken Icon Comics.

Panels will include "House of Horrors: A History of Horror in Comics" at 11 a.m.; "Merry Mutant Memories," a question-and-answer session with Claremont at 1 p.m.; and Snow at 2 p.m. Registration for a cosplay contest ends at 4:30 p.m. Kids cosplay is at 5 p.m. and adults cosplay is at 5:30 p.m.

Oktoberfest celebration in Minerva

Minerva's Oktoberfest celebration will be noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at Municipal Park with live music, food, craft beer and children's activities.

The festival is free, and activities begin at 9 a.m. with a Walk to End Alzheimer's organized by Minerva Memory Makers.

Live music starts at noon with The Polka Pirates, followed by T. Free & the Panic Attacks at 3 p.m.

A variety of food will be available, as well as craft beer from Sandy Springs Brewing Co., Aeonian Brewing Co., Paradigm Shift and Maize Valley. Crafts also will be for sale.

Family activities include free pumpkin painting, a free hayride, pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables, goats to pet, a Lost French Golf scavenger hunt, panning for gold with the Gold Prospector’s Association of America and pumpkin bowling.

Entries for the pie-baking contest must be in by noon, with adult, teen and youth categories.

The beer stein slide returns this year, and will be open throughout the festival. Registration for sack races begins at 1:30 p.m., with races for all ages starting at 2 p.m.

A Dress-Your-Dog contest will take place at 4 p.m., with prizes for the top three costumed dogs. Registration opens at 3:30 p.m.

The beer-stein lifting contest will be held on the stage at roughly 5:30 p.m., with divisions for men and women.

A Duck Race, benefitting the Roxy Theatre, will take place in Sandy Creek in the park at 6 p.m. Ducks are $5 each, or $20 for five ducks, and are available in the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce office or at the park the day of the festival.

Earth, Wind & Fire alumni in concert in Canton

Legacy Reunion is reuniting Earth, Wind & Fire alumni for a performance Friday night at Canton Palace Theatre.

"This is a special reunion show of talented EWF alumni who have been part of the group’s legacy through the decades," the Palace Theatre explains on its website. "Legacy Reunion does not include musicians currently performing as Earth, Wind & Fire."

Musicians will be performing hit songs "that combine jazz, R&B, disco and soul into the perfect pop storm that dominated the 1970s," the Palace Theatre adds.

Doors open one hour before the 7:30 p.m. concert. Tickets, $54, $78 and $110, can be purchased online at https://cantonpalacetheatre.org/ or by calling the box office at 330-454-8172 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Any remaining tickets will be available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m.

The band had six consecutive double-platinum albums while receiving multiple Grammy nominations.

The Guess Who in concert on Sunday

The Guess Who will be in concert on Sunday night at the Canton Palace Theatre.

Formed in Canada in the 1960s, the rock band is best known for the songs, "American Woman," "Laughing," "These Eyes" and "No Time."

Fifteen of the band's albums have charted on the Billboard 200 and 14 singles have charted on Billboard’s top 40.

Latino Festival in downtown Canton on Saturday

The first Latino Festival in Canton will be 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton.

The event is in conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month and will feature Latino food trucks, clothing vendors, art vendors, informational booths, dancers, bouncy houses, live music, a mechanical bull and a taco eating contest.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to register to vote.

Latino Fest is a free, family-friendly event celebrating community and the Latin/Hispanic culture during National Hispanic Heritage Month, organizers said on the event's Facebook page.

Centennial Plaza is on Market Avenue N between Third and Fourth Streets NW.

Beach Boys tribute in Massillon

Sounds of Summer, a Beach Boys tribute band, will perform Saturday at Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Massillon.

Tickets, $30 and $35 for main floor and $25 for balcony, can be purchased online at https://www.lionslincolntheatre.org/ or by calling 330-481-9105.

The Lions Lincoln Theatre is at 156 Lincoln Way E.

Sounds of Summer has been performing nationally since 2015. The band will perform about 30 to 40 songs during the two-hour performance.

Murder mystery dinner theatre in Massillon

A 1950s-themed interactive murder mystery dinner theatre event will be 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Santangelo's Party Center in Massillon.

Tickets are $45.50 for ages 13 and older and $33.50 for children ages 3 to 12, and can be purchased at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/haywarddinnertheatre/743477.

The event includes a buffet meal of chicken and beef, fettuccine alfredo, scalloped potatoes and hot mixed garden vegetables. A cash bar also will be available. Dinner will be served at 8 p.m.

The murder mystery story goes like this: "It's the homecoming pep rally and the Pillsboro Possums' star quarterback was found dead at the bottom of the pool. His pranks were legendary, but who got the last laugh on the joker?"

"Visit yesteryear at the Malt Shoppe with the greaser, Poindexter, the homecoming queen and the cheerleader."

Attendees are encouraged to dress in the style of the 1950s, with a cash prize given for the three best costumes.

Santangelo's Party Center is at 1008 9th St SW. The event is presented by the Hayward Dinner Theatre.

Alfred Hitchcock double feature at Palace Theatre

An Alfred Hitchcock double feature of "Rear Window" and "Psycho" will be shown Saturday at the Canton Palace Theatre.

Doors open at 5 p.m. "Rear Window" begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by "Psycho" at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 and include both movies.
