Things to do in El Paso: Enjoy FloraFest, Big Fair and La Union spring fling

It's no April Fool's Joke that there's plenty to do this weekend. The wind should be taking a break this weekend and the usual sunny weather will be back to enjoy outdoor events.

It's a good weekend to think about flowers and spring planting or to enjoy fairs with carnival rides and fun treats. There is also an opportunity to see some musicals and some fun events for younger people.

FloraFest returns Saturday

FloraFest returns for one day Saturday at the the University of Texas at El Paso Undergraduate Building.
FloraFest returns for one day Saturday at the the University of Texas at El Paso Undergraduate Building.

The FloraFest, which promotes planting native flowers, shrubs and trees in home landscapes, will be Saturday. The event sells hundreds of plants and trees that thrive in El Paso's sunny weather and are drought tolerant.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Undergraduate Learning Center plaza at the University of Texas at El Paso. Bring credit cards, no cash.

The plant sale is the only fundraiser for the maintenance and operation of the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. Shoppers can visit with local master gardeners, horticulturists, and other plant experts for advice on how to care for their plants at home.

Last Saturday for Poppies Fest

The El Paso Museum of Archaeology, 4301 Trans Mountain Road, will have its last day for the Poppies Fest 2023 Saturday. The fest celebrates the wildflowers that pop up around the museum and in the desert if there is good rain during winter. The poppies typically bloom in late January and last through early April. The fest, which has free admission, should provide activities and programs for the whole family.
