Things to do in July: Fireworks, shopping, books, ice cream and more
There is no shortage of things to do in and around Franklin County in July 2022. Here is a selection of events to add to your social calendar, listed in order by date:
Waynesboro Summer Jubilee
When: Monday, July 4
Where: 500 E. Main St., Waynesboro
Admission: Free
A full lineup of events is planned for the Waynesboro Summer Jubilee, beginning at 8 a.m. and running through the fireworks at dusk.
A 1-mile kids fun run at 7:15 a.m. and the Firecracker 5K at 7:45 a.m. get the day started. Registration is from 6 to 7 a.m.

Back in Time:M.A. Foltz was a man with a vision for Chambersburg
The Brothers of the Brush’s Fourth of July Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. The Main Street route runs from CV Avenue to Enterprise Avenue.
Waynesboro Summer Jubilee includes the Kid’s Zone, food and craft vendors and live entertainment.
The performance schedule includes 4 to 5:30 p.m., The South Mountain Breed; 6 to 7:15 p.m., Lucky Punk; and 7:40 p.m. to dusk, Ruthie Collins.

Greencastle Sidewalk Days
When: Friday, July 8, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, July 9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Downtown Greencastle
Admission: Free
Downtown Greencastle will be a shoppers’ delight during the 55th annual Sidewalk Days. There also will be plenty of good things to eat, a variety of entertainment and a Kids Zone.
“The chamber is happy that we have had a tremendous response from vendors. We have very few booth spaces remaining,” said Debby Cunningham, executive director of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce, which hosts Sidewalk Days. “We have a good mixture of community groups, businesses, food and many merchant vendors participating. In addition to vendors located in the street, the downtown businesses will be open and there are ‘pop-up’ shops in the Aura Building. A unique feature this year is the Army National Guard’s climbing wall. It will be in the parking lot at the Greencastle Church of the Brethren for anyone ages 14 to 75.”
The Kids’ Zone area, located at the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, features the Cumberland Valley School of Music with a make-and-take musical craft on Saturday from 10:30 to noon followed by a Balloon Twister from 12:30 to 2 p.m. At other times there will be games set up and available for kids to play.
Entertainment on Friday includes CVSM student performances at 3 p.m., the Back Creek Valley Boys at 4 p.m. and Runaway Train at 6:15 p.m. A puppet show by Barb and Friends will kick off the Saturday entertainment at 9 a.m. and Evan Crider will perform at 1 p.m.
Demonstrations by Momentum Martial Arts, Rockstar Cheer and Majestic Cheer will take place periodically during the two days.

Franklin County Fair
When: Sunday, July 10, to Saturday, July 16
Where: Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club, 3725 Warm Spring Road
Admission: $5 per car 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; $10 per car 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday
Franklin County’s annual showcase of agriculture will feature live music, events, exhibits, competitions, food stands and kids’ entertainment, including the Baby Barnyard and Shane the Balloon Guy and Magician.
This year’s theme is “Working Together to Keep the Tradition Alive!”
On Sunday, food stands open at 5 p.m. and the 48th annual vespers service, featuring gospel music by Daystar, will begin at 6 p.m.
Food stands will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. the rest of the week.
There are daily agricultural competitions and nightly entertainment, including fair royalty contests on Monday; “Elvis the Tribute” by David King on Tuesday; True Blue Tour featuring Joe Quick on Wednesday; 80s Tribute Band Thursday; the talent contest Friday; and Park Avenue Saturday.
Headliners also include the Interstate Truck and Tractor Pull Friday evening and Bull Mania Saturday night.

Historical Tours of Center of Mercersburg
When: Mondays, July 11, 18 and 25, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Meet at Fendrick Library on Main Street
Admission: Free
The tours are offered by the Mercersburg Historical Society. The content and itinerary are the same for each tour, so those wishing to participate may choose which evening they want to attend.

Ice Cream Social & Book Sale
Where: Blue Ridge Summit Free Library, 13767 Monterey Lane, and Summit Plaza
When: Saturday July 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission: Free
In addition to books for all ages, the day will feature music, food, drinks, a bake sale, face painting, plants, artists, authors and fire truck rides.
Jess the Reptile Guy will be on hand for interactive fun with snakes, lizards, turtles and crocs.
The BRS Fun Run also is being held July 16, with registration at 7:30 p.m. and the run starting at 8 a.m.

‘Kiss the Ground’ screening
When: Thursday, July 21, 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Where: Warfield Allen Auditorium, Wilson College, Chambersburg
Admission: Free
Wilson College and Healthy Franklin County will host the screening of the documentary film “Kiss the Ground.”
Narrated by Woody Harrelson, the documentary sheds light on a “new, old approach” to farming called regenerative agriculture, a practice with the ability to balance the climate and feed the world.
The screening will be followed by discussion and giveaways.
