Things to do in June: Carnival, Chefs Walk, car show and more

There is no shortage of things to do in and around Franklin County in June 2022. Here is a selection of events to add to your social calendar, listed in order by date:

Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fireman’s Carnival

When: Thursday, June 2, to Saturday, June 11; gates open at 5 p.m.

Where: FVFD Carnival Grounds, 101 W. Main St. Fayetteville

Cost: Free admission and parking

The Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department’s annual Fireman’s Carnival will feature rides by Penn Valley Shows, entertainment and food, including Uncle Eddie’s BBQ and Alycia’s Food Truck.

Fireworks at dark on Saturday, June 11, will cap off the carnival.

The entertainment schedule includes: Thursday, June 2, Reagan Years; Friday, June 3: Chris Woodward-Shindiggin (country); Saturday, June 4, JJ Billings (variety rock); Sunday, June 5: The Hubcaps; Monday, June 6, Road Ducks (variety); Tuesday, June 7, Jill Fulton Band (country); Wednesday, June 8, Amish Outlaws; Thursday, June 9, Stick Time (classic rock); Friday, June 10; Hit Parade (pop rock); Saturday, June 11, Cash Unchained (Johnny Cash tribute band).

Beginning birding workshop

When: 7:45 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 4

Where: Caledonia State Park

Cost: Free

The Conococheague Audubon will host the birding workshop geared toward beginners 6 and older, who will learn how to use binoculars and recognize birds. Audubon members will lead bird and nature walks and “Birding Buddies” will help participants identify birds.

For children, there will be a Scavenger Hunt, Birding Bingo and a Kid’s Corner with other activities.

Those attending should bring binoculars and a field guide if they have them; there will be a few pairs of binoculars to borrow.

The workshop will be held rain or shine and participants should meet in the first parking lot beyond the visitors’ center at 7:45 a.m.

Chefs Walk

When: 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4

Where: Alexander Avenue, Chambersburg

Cost: $60 per adult; and with purchase of adult ticket, $35 for teens (13-20) $20 for children (6-12), free for children younger than 5

Cumberland Valley School of Music will present Chefs Walk, a celebration of food and drink, music and community. Chefs Walk is a food and music crawl with local chefs, beer and spirit tasting and local musicians performing along Alexander Avenue in Chambersburg.

This year’s event will feature eight food stations — Pully Wissle Provisions, Mikie's Ice Cream, Mrs. Gibble’s Restaurant, CulTured Soul Food, Montezuma (Wayne Avenue), Maddie Ann's Perogies, The Butcher Shoppe and Breadbasket.

A number of breweries will have a selection of brews to sample and full-size pours will be available for purchase. This year’s participants are Battlefield Brew Works, Gearhouse Brewing Co., TBC Brewing Co., and Rough Edges Brewing. There also will be samples from Cold Spring Hollow Distillery and Undone Kombucha.

Four stages of live music will feature Carlisle Brass Quintet, CASHS Choristers, CVSM Jazz Quartet (Tim Gotwald, Sam Hepfer, Andrew Sussman and Ken Jankura), Devin Fields, Ethan Larsh, Hershey Accordion Trio, Loose Screws, Mar-Le-Nie Dance Studio, Marlin Barnes, Mission Road, New Horizons Band, Tresa Day Trio and CVSM Students.

Mainstreet Waynesboro’s Father’s Day Weekend Car & Truck Show

When: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday June 18

Where: Main Street, Waynesboro

Cost: Free for spectators; $12 entry free for vehicles

Main Street in Waynesboro will be lined with vehicles from the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library to Potomac Street for the annual Father’s Day Weekend Car and Truck Show hosted by Applachian Golden Classics in conjunction with Mainstreet Waynesboro. Trophies and awards will be presented at 2 p.m.

Visitors also can stop by the Market at the Park farmers market from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Main Street Park.

The Waynesboro Theatre will offer the vehicle-related movies “Cars” at 11 a.m. and “American Graffiti” at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com and at the door, while supplies last.

Fort Loudoun Market Fair, Fort Loudoun Historic Site

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, June 24, Saturday, June 25, and Sunday June 26

Where: Fort Loudoun Historic Site, 1720 Brooklyn Road North, Fort Loudon

Cost: $5 for adults, free for 17 and younger

Visitors can experience the sights and sounds of an 18th century market fair that features over 50 artisans, an encampment, demonstrations, artisanal food, a blanket trader, flea market, early American and Celtic music, and the Faire Wynd’s Circus.
