Mitch Rossell returning to Canton South High School
Country music artist Mitch Rossell's November concert at Canton South High School went so well he's returning for another one at 7 p.m. May 13.
Presale tickets go on sale through an online link on Friday to Canton Local Schools students and staff. Tickets also go on sale Feb. 11 through an email sent to anyone who bought tickets for Rossell's previous show and to those who have pre-registered on the school district's Facebook page at https://fb.watch/ioSy95ljJt/.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Feb. 15 at https://www.cantonlocal.org. Tickets are $20 each; student tickets are $5 but limited in supply. Information about sponsorship opportunities for local businesses is also posted on the school website.

Rossell, who has opened for country music icon Garth Brooks on stadium tours, performed at the high school auditorium after Canton Local Schools Superintendent Brett Yeagley won a contest for a home concert. Rossell, who recently performed for the first time at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, also agreed to the public performance at the high school this past fall.
Rossell's connection to Brooks is strong; he's written songs for the legend. Brooks also made a surprise introduction for Rossell at his Grand Ole Opry show in December.
The May concert will be in the Performing Arts Center at Canton South High School, 600 Faircrest St. SE., Canton Township.
Palace Theatre will be 'All Shook Up'
"Elvis" will be showing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Canton Palace Theatre.
Part of the theater's 2023 Award Nominated Film Series, the movie is about the life and music of the legendary Elvis Presley. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7 and available at the door at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N.
February First Friday features fire spinning and artwork
A fire performance will be the highlight of the Feb. 3 First Friday event in downtown Canton.
Fire spinning will be at the Hall of Fame City Ice Rink from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Centennial Plaza from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and on Fourth Street between Cleveland and Dewalt avenues from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Light spinning will be performed at John Strauss Furniture Design, 236 Walnut Ave. NE, from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m.; Bender's Tavern, 137 Court Ave. SW, from 6:30 to 7 p.m.; Julliard Arts/Creative Dreams, 610 Market Ave. N, 7 to 7:30 p.m.; Gator's Joint, 235 Cleveland Ave. NW, 7:30 to 8 p.m.; and Court Avenue between Second and Third streets, 8 to 8:30 p.m.
Art shows on Friday include "Aimee Lambes La Vida Local" from 5 to 10 p.m. at The Hub Art Factory, 336 Sixth St. NW. Lambes will exhibit her latest photography from Argentina and Antarctica.
Silo Arts Studio, 431 Fourth St. NW, will present "Quietly Loud," a collection of works curated by Laura Donnelly.

Professor Jack McWhorter celebrated at Patina Arts Centre
Friday is opening night for an art show at Patina Arts Centre remembering and honoring the late Kent State University at Stark art professor Jack McWhorter.
Patina Arts Centre, 324 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton, will present the artwork of former students of McWhorter, who taught art at KSU Stark for 32 years. He died in May 2022.
"Jack was a prolific artist, and each student created a work of art based on one of his pieces that will be on display," said Alaska Thompson, gallery director at Patina.
The exhibition is 5 to 9 p.m. at Patina in conjunction with First Friday activities downtown.
The Shootouts 'Tour Kick-off Party' Feb. 8 in Akron
The Shootouts, a honkytonk and western swing band based in Northeast Ohio, will be performing on Feb. 8 at Jilly's Music Room, 111 N. Main St., Akron.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. "Tour Kick-off Party" are $12 to $15 and available at https://www.eventbrite.com and https://jillysmusicroom.com.

The Shootouts likely will showcase some tracks from their forthcoming release, "Stampede," a followup to their 2021 album, "Bullseye," which cracked the top 10 of the Americana Music Association Radio Albums Chart.
The Shootouts, helmed by Ryan Humbert of North Canton, also will perform at the famed Grand Ole Opry on Feb. 24 in Nashville, the same day "Stampede" is released.
An Ohio album release concert is scheduled for March 18 at the Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Massillon featuring special guest Cody J. Martin. For more details, visit https://www.lionslincolntheatre.org.
'The Elephant Man' at KSU Stark this weekend
The Players Guild Theatre will present "The Elephant Man" this weekend at the Mary J. Timken Theatre at Kent State University at Stark.
Based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the 19th century, the production will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
