Indeed a day full of excitement and spice, the Hot Chicken Festival opens on Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Shopping, music, games and, of course, chicken will all be at the festival in Cannonsburgh Village, 312 South Front Street.

Dry herbs and press flowers with ease

Join Murfreesboro Community Gardening to learn how to preserve herbs or press flowers on Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. until noon. If planning to press, bring a heavy book.

Oaklands Annual Summer Party

NOTE: SOLD OUT. Saturday, July 16, everyone is invited to the Oaklands Mansion for the museum's annual Summer Party from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. On 900 North Maney Avenue, this event is to help raise funds for the variety of programs that take place throughout the year at Oaklands.

Southern fried chicken and catfish, a full bar and live music are all included in the purchase of a $100 ticket per person.

A Comedy Show for Democracy

The Rutherford County Democratic Party is hosting a comedy fundraiser to support voter registration and mobilization. At the Walnut House, 116 North Walnut Street, Nashville comedian Josh Black, local comedians Holly Amber and Nick Bush will perform. So be ready to laugh on Sunday, July 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $25, and snacks and a cash bar will be provided. A silent auction will also take place.

Emily Miller at Hank's Honky Tonk Bar

Listen to Emily Miller's unique sound as she plays live at Hank's Honky Tonk Bar and Grille, 2342 Memorial Boulevard, on Sunday, July 17, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

"With each performance, she offers enthusiasm, talent and creativity in engaging her audience and performing a show that engages and stays with the crowd," according to Hank's.

Busy Bees Class for Kids

Take the kids down to Patterson Park Community Center, 521 Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, to play physically active games and listen to music. On Tuesday, July 19, this event is for kids ages three to five. The class will start at noon and end at 12:45 p.m.

Early Voting Kick-Off Celebration with Randy Allen

Join Randy Allen and his campaign on Tuesday, July 19, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at 243 Flag Court.

Music, games, food and drinks will be provided at the event, and wear the "I Voted" sticker to enter to win prizes.

The dress code is summer casual, and the event is free for all ages.

Animal Snuggles & Art on the Farm: Sweet as Honey

Snuggle some animals this Summer at Sugarbush Farms' Nature Center, 2606 Sugarbush Court. On Tuesday, July 19, from 9 a.m. until noon, meet miniature pigs, goats, donkeys, chickens, bees and baby chicks for $12.50.

Attendees are required to wear closed-toe shoes.
