Unheard African American stories at Massillon Museum

The Massillon Museum’s "Missing History of Massillon: Unheard African American Stories" exhibition will open on Saturday with a free public reception from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Aultman Health Foundation Gallery.

The exhibition features oral histories, archives, photographs and artifacts "celebrating the rich narrative of Massillon’s Black community" a museum news release said.

Some items will be from the museum’s permanent collections; others will be recent acquisitions gathered from the community throughout the project.

"Free Haircuts" by Gary Harwood is a digital photograph in the Massillon Museum's collection. Fred Hannon is shown with Edgar Herring as he rests between clients at the Ebony and Ivory Barbershop on First Street SE.

'Drop Dead' performed at Minerva High School

"Drop Dead" will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Minerva High School auditeria.

The Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting the play in collaboration with Louisville Community Theatre.

"In this farce by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore, a cast of has-been actors plan to revive their careers in a potboiler murder mystery directed by 'Wonder Child of the Broadway Stage' Victor Le Pewe (a psychotic, eye-twitching megalomaniac)," said a news release from the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and all seating is general admission. Tickets are $10 and can purchased at the Minerva Chamber office, which can be reached at 330-868-7979, or online at www.eventbrite.com/ by searching under "Drop Dead community theater production."

“Drop Dead” is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals. All profits from the performances will support renovations and improvements at the Roxy Theatre in Minerva.
