Things to do: Sheriff's Rodeo, Christmas in July comedy, auctions and more

Celebrate the holiday season early this weekend at The Factory, or take part in a great meal at one of Columbia's hidden jewels, check out a rodeo or take in a few laughs.

1. Maury County Sheriff's Rodeo

The Maury County Sheriff's Rodeo will take place starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, and will run through Saturday.

Ropers and riders will saddle up for the 18th annual Maury County Sheriff's Rodeo, which will take place this weekend at Maury County Park, 1048 Maury County Park Drive.

The event will kick off at 8 p.m. Friday, as well as 8 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the event will support the Maury County Association of School Resource Officers and Reserve Associations.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

The rodeo is sanctioned by the International Professional Rodeo Association.

Pre-sale tickets, which are available at www.RodeoUsa.com are $10 and are $15 at the gates.

2. Christmas in July at The Factory

The Factory at Columbia will host "Christmas in July" this weekend, featuring multiple vendors and artisans from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

These days, it's never too early to prep for the upcoming holiday season, which is what people can experience at The Factory this weekend.

The Factory, 101 N. James M. Campbell Blvd., will host a two-day "Christmas in July" celebration starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The facility will feature an indoor open market featuring dozens of local vendors and artisans, as well as an opportunity to shop for unique gift items, baked goods and more.

The Factory's Christmas in July will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday adn noon to 4 p.m. Funday.

3. White Bean & Cornbread auction at The Athenaeum

The Athenaeum Rectory, one of Columbia's surviving historical buildings, reopened this week after a year of renovations and upgrades.

Known as one of Columbia's "hidden jewels," The Athenaeum, 808 Athenaeum St., presents its election year White Bean & Cornbread supper.

The event will start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, with a live auction beginning at 6 p.m.

Save room for dessert as the live auction will include homemade cakes and other desserts donated by members of the community.

Citizens may also speak and interact with candidates running for office in the upcoming Aug. 4 election, many of which will speak following the auction.

Tickets are $10, two tickets for $15, with all proceeds benefiting The Athenaeum's continued restoration.

4. Comedy at Twisted Copper

Who doesn't need a few laughs these days, especially over a few good cold craft brews?

Drive down to Twisted Copper Brewing Company, 121 S. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant, this weekend as it debuts its first comedy night, featuring Atlanta-based headliner Munch Wade.

Tickets range from $12-$17 and are available at www.EventBrite.com.

Wade is described as "a straight shooter who is definitely not afraid to tell people what he thinks about something, which frequently gets him in trouble that only his southern charm can prevent."

The show is set to start at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Prior to Sunday's comedy show, Jason Sealy will perform live music at Twisted Copper starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.

5. Live entertainment

Heather Land will perform at The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are available at www.TheMulehouse.com.

Cord Martin will perform at Vintage Winery, 616 N. Main St., starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The Wentzel Brothers Band will perform at Asgard Brewing Co. & Taproom, 104 E. 5th St., starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Forever Abbey Road will perform at The Mulehouse starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at www.TheMulehouse.com.

Classic Vinyl will perform at Vintage Winery starting at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Mercury Red will perform an unplugged set at Columbia Elks Lodge, 1208 WKRM Lane, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.
