This weekend packs a double whammy with Cinco de Mayo and First Fridays, but that's just the start as we make our way one week closer to summer.

1. Springtime Jamboree at Riverwalk

The city of Columbia invites the public to join together in kicking off this year's Farmer's Market season at Riverwalk Park.

The city will host a special, as well as free, Springtime Jamboree starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the park.

Activities will include live music, a "lost" Easter egg hunt, balloon art and the chance to meet your local farmers, not to mention the opportunity to shop fresh produce, locally-sourced meats and handcrafted items.

2. First Fridays

It's a new month, which of course means the first weekend kicks off with another festive First Fridays in downtown Columbia.

Shops will be open late, food trucks will be set up to serve, along with live music and lots of people enjoying the best Columbia has to offer.

Main First Friday events will run from 5-8 p.m.

For a taste of The Big Easy, catch Chief Smiley Ricks & The C-Town Specials, who will perform at Daniel's Barber Shop on the Square starting at 7 p.m.

Bald Kernal will also be performing at Asgard Brewing Co. & Taproom, 104 E. 5th St., starting at 7:30 p.m.

For something a little Celtic, stop by McCreary's Irish Pub on South Main Street, where The Def Leprechaun Band will be performing from 7-9 p.m.

3. Reconnecting Roots Season 3 premiere

Did you know there is a TV show produced in Columbia, and that it is having its latest premiere for the public this Sunday?

"Reconnecting Roots" will celebrate its third season premiere at The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., starting at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Hosted by Gabe McCauley, "Reconnecting Roots" delves into local history through interviews, reenactments and storytelling and is broadcast on the PBS network.

Sundays event will include clips from the latest season, live music, food trucks and a cash bar.

4. Pickin' in the Park at Harvey Park

A popular spring and summer tradition in Spring Hill is getting out to the park for its Pickin' in the Park series.

This weekend's fun and free outdoor event will take place starting at 5 p.m. Saturday at Harvey Park, 4001 Miles Johnson Parkway.

The lineup will include performances by Vudu Childe, Steven Cade, The Pickin' Crows, Goldie and the Mayors and Reverent Cavaliers.

5. Live entertainment

Darryl Worley will perform at The Mulehouse, 812 S. High St., starting at 8 p.m. Friday. To purchase tickets, visit www.TheMulehouse.com.

The Jolly String Quartet will perform at Puckett's in downtown Columbia starting at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Malachias & Khris Glaring will perform at The Tilted Mule, 102 Depot St., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Harmony Way will perform at the Elks Lodge, 1208 WKRN Lane, starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Escape Band will perform at Embers Tavern & Grille, 2513 Hospitality Drive, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Polly's Pocket will perform at Fozzy's Bar & Grill, 150 Stephen P. Yokich Parkway, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday.
