From the revival of the Monarch Butterfly Festival, to spooky Halloween fun, to the Sundown Concert Series jazz, there's a lot happening on this crisp October weekend.

The Irish Repertory Theater is marking the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday with a production of  "The Freedom of the City" and the Mickee Faust Club keeps it weird with "The Cursed House of Ravensmadd."

The Filthy Six brings acid jazz to downtown

Tallahassee Downtown presents a fun and free experience for music fans in Cascades Park with local band Tocamos Mas opening for The Filthy Six at the Capital City Amphitheater from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, as part of the penultimate show in the Sundown Concert Series.

The Filthy Six are flying in from London, and have established themselves as one of the most electric live acts on the scene. Their soaring horns, blistering guitar and gut-wrenching organ are fueled by one of the hardest grooving rhythm sections around, producing a powerful mixture of jazz, funk and boogaloo.

Led by trumpeter Nick Etwell, this band of musical gunslingers have worked with some of the biggest names in music and are on the road for a short run in the U.S. this fall showcasing their new EP “Soho Filth.”

Seating in the amphitheater and on the lawn is available without registration and open to all. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, pillows, and chairs to make their experience even more enjoyable. There will be family-friendly activities and local food trucks.

The last show of this 7th annual series will feature Revival on Nov. 26.

Blues fly in from New Orleans, Chicago at Bradfordville Blues Club

Johnny Sansone blows in from New Orleans at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, for a show under the oaks at the Bradfordville Blues Club, 7152 Moses Lane. He is bringing a hot steamy gumbo of bayou basted blues that is uniquely 'Nawlins.

Sansone is a monster on the blues harp and his whiskey soaked, growlin' vocals supplement his high octane stage performance. Add his fiery accordion and guitar pickin' to the mix and you got yourselves a party in the woods. He's backed by John Fohl on guitar, Russ Broussard on drums, and Jeffrey Bridges on bass. Sansone is a regular at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

Advance tickets are $20 at bradfordvilleblues.com. Day of show tickets are $25. Ms. Ernestine will be serving her famous fried fish next to the bonfire.

Club favorite, James Armstrong returns to the juke with some real deal Chicago Blues for the 2nd Annual Evening with Spirit benefit for the Spirit of the Child Foundation at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

James plays straight up traditional blues with a contemporary flair. He's an entertaining showman, who’s mean blues licks and slide is accompanied by smooth but gutsy vocals that have earned him praise from coast to coast. His music is funky and danceable.

Advance tickets are $25 at  bradfordvilleblues.com. Cover at the gate is $30. Bring chairs and blankets for the outdoors show. Ms. Ernestine will be serving her fried fish.

Reckless Saints and more ring out at Blue Tavern

The Delta Ringnecks provide the happy hour tunes from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Blue Tavern, 1206 N. Monroe St. Then it's D. Scott Riggs from 7-9 p.m. and Reckless Saints from 9-11 p.m. D. Scott Riggs is a Gulf Coast-based songwriter/musician that plays Panhandle Blues and original tunes with a picking style all his own. After Scott's set, the Reckless Saints take the stage for the rest of the evening. $5 cover.

2nd Saturday Old Time Jam cranks up from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Blue Tavern. Then it's a doubleheader of blues roots music with John Ford from 7-9 p.m. and Corey Hall & the Freaky Teeth from 9-11 p.m.

John Ford presents pre-war blues, old-school country, southern gospel and the history behind the music. John Ford's newest release is a live EP called "John Ford Live" (with The John Ford Blues Society) recorded at Morehead State University in 2016. Corey Hall has been honing his chops with American folk roots run strong through his music. $5 cover.

Paddy League is up for happy hour at the tavern from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25. Then it's Tuesday is Bluesday with Ruth Wyand from 8-10 p.m. Wyand plays a mix of Americana, jazz, blues, folk, country with a portion of Piedmont picking and clawhammer thrown in. Wyand presents a mixture of originals with poignant lyrics as well as well-crafted instrumental arrangements of classics ranging from Doc Watson, Etta Baker, Jimi Hendrix, Leo Kottke to Thelonious Monk and Nina Simone. $3 cover.

Boss fiddle and banjo player Aisha Ivey, with some help from Carrie Hamby on accordion entertains from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Tavern.  Expect a lot of old-time tunes with a few Irish and Scottish numbers thrown in. Step up for Open Mic Night at 8 p.m. with Doc Russell.

Michael Cattell brings his guitar for happy hour from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, followed by Robynn & Friends from 7-9 p.m. Celebrate Robynn's 8-year anniversary of being cancer-free. Donations accepted for St. Jude's Children's Hospital at stjude.org. Stick around for a special Halloween late movie "Village of the Damned" starting at 9:30 p.m.

Irish Repertory Theater presents 'Freedom'

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, the Irish Repertory Theater of Tallahassee is staging "The Freedom of the City," at FSU's Augusta Conradi Theater, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, as well as 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the door or at tallahasseeirishrep.com.

Hot Tamale plays the Butterfly Festival

Acoustic duo Hot Tamale has built a wide repertoire of musical styles over their 14 years of entertaining in the Big Bend, but they are most well known for their upbeat family-friendly performances which is a perfect fit for the Monarch Butterfly Festival this Saturday at the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.

Hot Tamale will be playing outside the Visitor Center at the Wildlife Refuge from noon till 3 p.m., with shakers for the kids, and fun for all. Regular park admission fees of $5 per car apply for this family event. Enjoy nature, butterflies, and fun-filled musical entertainment at the festival, which runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

It's the Monster Mas at FSU

FSU’s Mas ‘n’ Steel, Balinese Gamelan, and Indonesian Angklung Ensemble will be joined by Leon High School’s Lion Steel Canboulay band in this exciting joint concert featuring a host of spooky tunes at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Florida State University College of Music at Opperman Music Hall, 114 N. Copeland St. It's free and the stage will be packed with costumed performers.

FAMU Essential Theatre presents 'Chicken &  Biscuits'

FAMU Essential Theatre presents "Chicken & Biscuits" at Charles Winter Wood Theatre, 515 Orr Drive, this weekend. Written by Douglas Lyons and directed by Luther D. Wells the Mainstage Series runs Oct. 19-23. In this laugh-out-loud comedy, the Jenkins family is coming together to celebrate the life of their father — hopefully without killing each other. But any hopes for a peaceful reunion unravel when a family secret shows up at the funeral. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. Great Oaks Pub at Southwood: Tallahassee's premier dance band "Crooked Shooz" returns from 7-10 p.m. Friday at the Pub, 3750 Grove Park Drive. Mark Blair, Sinclair, Robert Wilson, and the Scott brothers, Mike and Bird will be laying down the beat that has moved Tallahassee for the past 30 years. Crooked Shooz brings a unique blend of funk, boogie and classic rock.
