Go ahead and howl! It's Halloween weekend. It's FAMU homecoming. There's going to be a lot of orange, a lot of pumpkins and a lot of parties going on.

FAMU's homecoming parade rolls through campus at 8 a.m. Saturday. FSU is back home at Doak with a noon game against Georgia Tech. The Rattlers tackle Arkansas Pine Bluff Lions at 4 p.m.

FAMU Homecoming: The Experience

Among the highlights of the weeklong celebration, themed "The Experience," will be two days of live broadcasts of Good Morning America from the FAMU campus. GMA will air live from Bragg Memorial Stadium beginning at 6:45 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 28.

FAMU Alumna Kim Godwin, president of ABC News, will be the grand marshal for the Homecoming Parade on Saturday through the FAMU Campus with staging at Lee Hall. More than 355 floats, cars and groups have registered for the 8 a.m. event. A contract dispute knocked Latto out of the Homecoming Concert lineup, scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lawson Center. The lineup Headliners City Girls are still appearing, as well as Saucy Santana — born Rashad Spain — who is known for his hit songs, “Material Girl” and “Shisha” featuring City Girls.

To wrap it up the festivities, the FAMU Gospel Choir will perform at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Jacob Chapel Baptist Church. For a schedule of events, visit homecomingatfamu.com.

Halloween Symphony Spooktacular

The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra brings out the creepy tunes for it 7th annual free Halloween Symphony Spooktacular for the community from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at Capital City Amphitheater in Cascades Park. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Enjoy trick-or-treating, food trucks, costumes, spooky favorites like "Thriller," "Night on Bald Mountain," and "Ghost Busters!" Sister Lucille, ZydecoZoo throw down at Bradfordville Blues Club

The Sister Lucille Band returns for a rafter-rattling encore performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday on the Bradfordville Blues Club stage. This high-energy four-piece from Missouri melds blues, roots, soul to create their own sound — Memphunk!

They breathe funk and feeling into the blues, stir it with the soul of Gospel and tint it with an air of soul that earned them accolades throughout the blues world. It's a Zydeco Halloween throwdown when JB's ZydecoZoo lets loose under the oaks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. No need for an introduction to Tallahassee’s iconic Zydeco troupe. This partyin’ posse is led by Zoo keeper JB (John Babich) squeezin’ the box, Neal Goree bendin’ the strings, Keith McCraw on rubboard, Paul Harvey on percussion and Steve Fryson Jr. on drums.

We’ll provide the dancin’ juice, tunes and bonfire. Costumes, party hats, dancin’ shoes, parasols, hankies and beads are the attire for the night. Advance tickets are $20 at bradfordvilleblues.com and $25 at the door. Ms. Ernestine will be frying her fish.

It's party time at Blue Tavern with birthday bash and Monster Mash

Kick up your heels for Paddy Mac's 82nd birthday and the Blue Tavern's 6th anniversary on Friday. The celebrating goes all night, with a CD release party for Lee C. Payton. It's Lee's birthday too!

The fun starts with happy hour from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday with Tommy Hoople's Delta Ringnecks, followed by Lee C. Payton & the Gangbusters with the Gonna B. Goode CD release party and birthday bash at Blue Tavern, 1206 N. Monroe St. The band features Lee C. Payton on guitar, vocals; Mike Stone on drums; Ben Banks on bass, vocals; and Josh Gendal on lead guitar.

The live CD has performances from Bird's Lab Session, Bradfordville Blues Club, LeMoyne Chain of Parks Arts Festival, and the Warehouse. $10 cover includes CD.

Keep your party hats on for the Halloween party and Monster Mash at Blue Tavern on Saturday. Hot Tamale starts things off at 5 pm with a devilish set of tunes Halloweeny and otherwise. Then, the Moon Mammals of Ganymede kick it into high gear at 8 p.m. Surprises throughout the evening, and a prize for the best costume. $5 cover

On Tuesday, start the month off with happy hour from 5-7 p.m. with Paddy League at Blue Tavern, followed by Tuesday is Bluesday with Quanta at 8 p.m. Quanta is back for a limited time, while Jack Quine pays Tallahassee a visit. $3 cover.

Ben Green and Kirill Litvak provide happy hour fiddle and accordion music from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Doc Russell hosts Open Mic Night at 8 p.m.

On Thursday Bramble's Bluegrass Jam takes on happy hour from 5-7 p.m. at Blue Tavern. Every month Bronwyn Chelette is leading a bluegrass jam in the tavern. World Music First Thursdays kicks in from 8-10 p.m. with bossa nova, samba and more with Welson Tremura and Randy Lee. Guitarist and vocalist Tremura (a graduate of FSU's Musicology Ph.D. program) and trumpeter Lee will play an evening of music from Tremura's native Brazil.

FSU Opera is all dressed up for 'The Marriage of Figaro'

Florida State University’s College of Music is once again slated to be a colorful and costumed affair as FSU Opera presents its fall production, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” this Halloween weekend.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, through Saturday, Oct. 29, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall in the Westcott Building on FSU’s campus.

There will be a preshow lecture one hour prior to curtain in Room 60 of the Westcott Building. Tickets are available online at tickets.music.fsu.edu and range from $10-$20.

Lights are glittering at the North Florida Fair

There's nothing like the cotton candy smells and the happy screams of riders being tossed around in the Claw or the roller coaster. It's time to fill up on candy apples and corn dogs and watch the spinning lights.

The 80th Annual North Florida Fair opens Thursday and runs Nov. 3-13 at the North Florida Fairgrounds, 441 E. Paul Russell Road.

Don't miss a stroll through the displays of home goods, prize hens, rabbits and goats. Catch the Show-me Swine racers, Magic Mayhem or the Cowboy Circus.

EXHIBITS

Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum, 1873 Hwy 98 W., in Carrabelle will be hosting a special exhibit honoring Native American Servicemen, opening Tuesday, Nov. 1 and on display until Saturday, Nov. 26. November is National Native American Heritage Month, and Camp Gordon Johnston Museum salutes their service and sacrifice. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. (The museum will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24 for Thanksgiving.)

Great Oaks Pub at Southwood: John Martin O’Neil, a veteran musician from south Florida who is new to the Tallahassee area, performs from 7-10 p.m. Friday on the outdoor gazebo at Great Oaks Pub, 2750 Grove Park Drive. He performs classic rock from the '70s through the '90s. Full bar and restaurant. 10 Minute Play Festival: White Mouse Theatre Productions presents six short plays from local Tallahassee playwrights each day from Oct. 28-30 in Moore Auditorium, 83 N. Woodward Ave. Plays on the 28th and 29th will be shown from 8-10 p.m. and plays on the 30th will be from 2-4 p.m.

Creature Feature: Meet at the waterfront at Wakulla Springs for a screening of the classic horror film, "Creature from the Black Loagoon," under the stars. 7 pm. Terror of Tallahassee: he Terror of Tallahassee haunted house is back for 2022. The spooky house will be operating at 1408 Lake Bradford Road.  The scary show goes on Oct. 27 from 7:30-10 p.m. and Oct. 28-29 from 7:30-11:30 p.m.; and Oct.30-31 7-11 p.m. Tickets range for $27-30 and are on sale now. Dog-O-Ween: Star 98.9-FM will be hosting it's 34th annual event for dogs and their owners dressed up for Halloween at Tom Brown Park from 10 a.m - 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. Come out and dress up your dogs in the best costumes to win up to $100 cash. Dog's must have vaccinations up-to-date with paperwork to compete! Event is free to attend; dogs $10 to enter. Midtown Reader Halloween Party: Ready to get spooky? Midtown Reader, 1123 Thomasville Road, will have a costume contest and open mic night of spooky-themed pieces from 4:30-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30.

7th Annual Trick or Treat Story Walk: The Wakulla County Public Library and Parks and Recreation center will have its seventh annual trick or treat story walk at Azalea Park, 155 Azalea Drive, in Crawfordville from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

Halloween Hayride at Rolling Hills Ranch: The Rolling Hills Ranch, 6776 Quail Valley Road, is reserving spots for annual Halloween Hayride set for 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.
