Three Dog Night at Canton Palace on Thursday

Three Dog Night, a rock band now in its fifth decade, is performing Thursday night at the Canton Palace Theatre.

The show is at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace, 605 Market Ave. N.

Tickets are available at cantonpalacetheatre.org or by calling the box office at 330-454-8172. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and one hour before the show.

Three Dog Night was at the peak of its success from 1969 through 1974. Songs also have been featured in movies and television commercials. The band also has 12 gold records to its credit.

Hits include "Mama Told Me (Not To Come)," "Joy to the World," "Black & White" and "Shambala."

Three Dog Night also has recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra.

Hoover High art teacher opens 'Detours' show in Canton

Christopher Triner will open his art exhibition 'Detours' on Friday at Cyrus Custom Framing & Art Gallery in Canton.

Triner explained the exhibition in a news release from Cyrus.

"We have all found ourselves looking for 'detours' during the last 2 1/2 years," he wrote. "Ways to pass time; ways to stay safe; ways to calm our anxieties; and maybe even ways to escape.

"My detours found me traveling near and far to appreciate simplicity, solitude and a bit more of myself."

Friday's opening reception is 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Cyrus, 2645 Cleveland Ave. NW. The exhibition continues through Oct. 31.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, although Cyrus is closed the first Saturday of the month. The gallery is closed on Sundays.

During the reception, Triner will raffle off a print of his mural on the side of the Cultural Center for the Arts in downtown Canton. Proceeds of the raffle will benefit the Stark County Hunger Task Force.

Canton Symphony musicians performing at Beech Creek, Deer Creek

Musicians from Canton Symphony Orchestra will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Deer Creek Reservoir and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve in the Alliance area.

Deer Creek Reservoir is at 14514 Price St. NE in the Alliance area. Beech Creek is at 11929 Beech St. NE in Washington Township.

The Deer Creek performance is part of the symphony orchestra's Summer Serenades series collaborating with Stark Parks. The event is free and open to the public.

Friday's Beech Creek event is "bring your own picnic" night.

"We invite you to pack your picnic baskets and a few of your favorite adult beverages to wander through the gardens while listening to music provided by Canton Symphony," the symphony orchestra posted online.

Another symphony orchestra performance is scheduled Aug. 28 at Beech Creek.

A barbecue-themed special event is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday in downtown North Canton.

720 Community Markets is presenting the barbecue event as part of North Canton's Main Street Festival.

Food trucks featuring barbecue and craft beer are featured. Vendors include Pork in the Road, Three Lil' Piggies BBQ, Stachia's Almost Famous Wings, Manna Food Truck, Papa Cheese, Mydee Good Eatin', True Roots Barbecue, The Green Vegetarian Vegan A Go-Go, The Teacher's Pet and Johnny Lóte’s Latin Street Corn.

Other vendors include coffee, lemonade, chocolates and SMOOSH Cookies, which serves custom ice cream sandwiches.

Artisan vendors and barbecue demonstrations will be featured.

Concert on the Hill in Massillon featuring Bryan Stahl

This summer's final Concert on the Hill at Spring Hill on Tuesday features Bryan Stahl of Massillon.

Stahl, a folk singer and songwriter, will perform acoustically at 6:30 p.m. His folk style has been compared to Jim Croce and Cat Stevens, Spring Hill said in a news release.

Spring Hill Historic Home is at 1401 Springhill Lane NE, near the intersection of Wales Road and Lake Avenue in Northeast Massillon. Parking is available on-site.

Attendees should bring their own lawn chair or blanket for seating; a limited number of picnic tables will be available. Light concessions will be available for purchase (cash only), but outside food and drink are permitted.
