Things to do this week: Dustin Lynch concert, Richard Justice tribute, 1st German festival

Looking for something to do this week? Pay tribute to beloved actor and activist Richard Justice with Broadway favorites. Or head to Bell Auditorium where they will be switching to "Party Mode" when American country star Dustin Lynch hits the stage. For a show with more competitive spirit, residents can visit a "Battle of the Schools" talent show. Those wanting something more international can visit the "Augsburg Haus Plarrer" festival. Plus, Augusta Partnership for Children is hosting a full week of events and there are several smaller performances happening, like the next installment of the Grantski Stage Fund Concert Series and some improv comedy at Le Chat Noir. Here are more details on these and other upcoming festivities in the Augusta area:

Performances

Platinum-recording artist Dustin Lynch will be hitting the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Bell at 712 Telfair Street in Augusta. Lynch is known for hit singles like "Cowboys and Angels" and "Small Town Boy."

Just around the corner, the first birthday bash for Augusta will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the James Brown Arena at 601 7th Street. There will be live music from several performers like No Cap, Lil Poppa, Glorilla, Money Man and Big Boogie.

Tickets to both shows can be bought at the James Brown box office and online at augustaentertainmentcomplex.com.

If a 40 member choir singing Spamalot and Wizard of Oz tunes in tribute is your jam, then you should probably considerThe Augusta Broadway Singers' weekend performance. Riverfront Theatre Company presents "If love were enough, you'd still be here" at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, and Saturday, Aug. 27, at the North Augusta Community Center at 495 Brookside Avenue. They will be celebrating local activist and arts icon, Richard Justice, who died in 2020. Complimentary dessert and coffee will be available. Tickets can be bought online at rtc.ticketleap.com.

CSRA Battle of the Schools Talent Show is 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Elks Lodge #205 off Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta. Grades K-12 students will show off their skills as they compete for cash prizes and awards. Registration is available at the Wallace Branch Library at 1237 Laney Walker Boulevard in Augusta or online on the lodge's Facebook page.

The next installment of Grantski Records Stage Fund Concert Series is 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Grantski Records at 1151 Broad Street in Augusta. This will be "jazz night" featuring the Browntown Gritty, the Soultown Horns with the Browntown Gritty), Moxie and the Sophisticats. Proceeds will help Grantski fund a new stage and venue space. Tickets can be bought online at eventbrite.com.

Schrodinger's Cat will be bringing another improv comedy night to Le Chat Noir at 304 8th Street in Augusta at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.

Festivals

The Augsburg Haus Plarrer Festival is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Augsburg Haus at 4460 Washington Road in Evans. This is the German restaurant's first festival, and will feature a live band, drawings, a stein holding contest, and plenty of German food and beer.

Columbia County's Food Truck Friday is 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Evans Towne Center Park at 7016 Evans Towne Center Boulevard. There will be several food trucks and drinks, plus live entertainment.

Running events

Runners and walkers wanting to have some fun with their dogs can visit the Ruff Run/Walk at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Lake Olmstead Trailhead at the end of Milledge Road in Augusta. There will be raffles and giveaways, plus snacks for dogs and their owners.

The next day at the same location is ADP Augusta's 3rd annual 5K for the Cause. The proceeds will be donated to the Cycle for the Cause fundraising initiative and Augusta Pride. For more information, go to active.com.

APC Children's Week

Augusta Partnership for Children is a local nonprofit organization that helps provide resources to children and their families. Its children's week is a special celebration for children from infants all the way up to 19-year-olds. Admission is free. Here are the participating events:

Skate Night at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Skateland of Augusta at 2451 Windsor Spring Road in Augusta.

Children's Story Time at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Augusta Library at 823 Telfair Street in Augusta.

Kids in the Kitchen Virtual Cooking Demo at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, on the APC social media platforms.

Slumber Party Movie Night at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater and Plaza at the end of 8th Street in Augusta.
