Crossroads Church Care Closet

9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Feb. 3-4 at Crossroads Church, 2810 First St., Perry.

The Crossroads Church Care Closet is growing and will be open the first weekend of every month. The Care Closet will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 3-4. Everything is free, including clothing for men, women, boys and girls, kitchenware, small appliances and more. For more information, call 515-465-5478.

Date Night Pickleball

6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at McCreary Center.

The Perry Picklers and McCreary Center will host open play from 6-8 p.m. each Friday through April. Everyone is invited to join in to learn the game and play. Pickleball is FREE for McCreary Center members or $3 per person for non-members. Due to scheduling conflicts with the gym, open play won't be offered on Feb. 10.

2023 BRR - Perry’s 46th Annual Bike Ride to Rippey

Saturday, Feb. 4 starting at Hotel Pattee, Perry.

Perry's 46th Annual Bike Ride to Rippey will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4. As the biggest annual fundraiser for the Perry Chamber of Commerce, The Original Winter Ride is held regardless of weather. Registration and check-in at the Hotel Pattee will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Feb. 4. The group start will be at 10 a.m. from Willis Avenue and 2nd Street. Breakfast will be served at the Hotel Pattee. Perry Hy-Vee will host its annual hot chocolate pit stop on the way to Rippey. The Rippey Lions Club will serve roast beef sundaes, chili, bars and beverages at the community room inside the Rippey Library on Main Street. The Rippey United Methodist Church and Rippey Ballpark Commission will serve a baked potato bar, chili, nachos, pie and beverages at the Rippey United Methodist Church at the west end of Main Street. 59th Annual Stag Night

5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Minburn American Legion, 319 Baker St, Minburn.

American Legion Osborne Post #99 will host its 59th Annual Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed on Saturday, Feb. 4. The menu will include beef and turkey oysters, baked beans and salad. The cost is $15 per person and a free-will bar will be available. A raffle drawing will follow supper (1 ticket for $2, 6 for $10, 12 for $20). Tickets are available around town at Minburn businesses.

Daddy Daughter Dance

7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at ADM High School Commons.

ADM After Prom will host a Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, Feb. 4. The dance is open to girls in grades preschool through fifth. The cost is $25 per couple and $10 for each additional child. Registration will include entrance to the dance, snacks and drinks and photo opportunities throughout the evening.  Complete the Google form to pre-register through the ADM After Prom Facebook page. Hard Water Hike

2-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 at Hanging Rock lower parking lot, Redfield.

Low water levels and Iowa’s low winter temperatures will come together to turn the Middle Raccoon River into a “hard water” hiking trail from Hanging Rock to the Old Hwy 6 bridge! This 1-mile, major habitat corridor is home to all kinds of wildlife, from bald eagles to otters to deer. We should be able to walk right up to the exposed sandstone that is the namesake of Hanging Rock. Registration is required through the Dallas County Conservation Board's Eventbrite page.

Social Center Luncheon

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at Woodward Social Center.

The Woodward Social Center will host a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. The menu will include scalloped potatoes and ham, mixed veggies, rolls and Jello poke cake. A free-will offering will be taken to help support the Woodward Social Center.

Conversation with an Owl

6 or 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and 9 at Hanging Rock Shelterhouse, Redfield.

Join the Dallas County Conservation Board for a fire glowing in the hearth and meet Strix, a barred owl. Participants will come face-to-face with Strix during a naturalist- led conversation examining the owl species common to Dallas County, their adaptations to nighttime hunting, and an introduction to their calls. Will include an Owl Prowl hike on the trails to see if we can strike up a conversation with one of the local barred owls. Registration required to choose date/time through the DCCB's Eventbrite page.

Coffee and Learn: Urban Land Management

9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Brenton Arboretum.

Join The Brenton Arboretum Education Manager, Penny Perkins for an in depth class on turning your yard into a diverse environment. Reconnect your yard to it’s natural diversity and learn the history and science behind creating a diverse environment in your yard. Best suited for age 18 and older. Backyard Birds of Dallas County

10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Forest Park Museum, Perry.

Learn to identify birds with local birder and conservationist, Ray Harden. Along with his wife Margaret, Ray has traveled the world photographing wildlife. This will be a deeper dive than the Birding Basics program and is preparation for the March Bird Hike.
