Things to do this weekend: Farmers markets return, Harlem Globetrotters play and more

The weather is getting warmer, and the calendar of activities is getting longer.

There’s lots going on in Wichita over the weekend, from a paranormal circus under a big top at Towne East to season launches for both Wichita farmers markets and for Old Cowtown Museum.

Here’s a look at some of the fun things Wichitans can do this weekend:

Paranormal Cirque at Towne East

Friday through April 8, Towne East Square parking lot, 7700 E. Kellogg

Have you been wondering what’s under the big white tents that have appeared in the Towne East Square parking lot? It’s a traveling show called “Paranormal Cirque” that will put on performances nightly through April 8 except for on Tuesday. “Paranormal Cirque” features “Acrobats of the Air, Illusionists, freaks, mysterious creatures” and more, according to the show’s website. It’s a “fun fusion between Circus, theater, and cabaret.” Attendees 13 through 17 can attend with a parent. Otherwise, attendees must be 18 or over with a photo ID. Farmers market season returns

7 a.m.-noon Saturday at 21st and Ridge, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday in Old Town

Wichita’s two big farmers markets return outdoors for the season starting this weekend. The Old Town Farm & Art Market, which happens from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at 835 E. First St. in Old Town, will open for the season on Saturday and will include more than 80 vendors offering baked goods, wine, meat and honey plus food trucks and live music. The Kansas Grown Farmers Market at 7001 W. 21st St. also opens for its 33rd season on Saturday, and its hours are 7 a.m. to noon. It’ll include vendors offering meats, eggs, honey, sauces and salsas, crafts and more plus live music and several food trucks. Admission is free at both markets.

Cowtown season launch party

Noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Old Cowtown Museum, 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

The Old Cowtown Museum also is launching its season and celebrating with a party. It will happen from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday and will include dancers roaming the streets, gunfight shows, vendors, food trucks and more. Visitors also can tour the museum’s exhibits, find out how to become a volunteer and learn about Wichita history. Admission is free.

Heart of America Men’s Chorus

7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Roxy’s Downtown, 412 1/2 E. Douglas

The Heart of America Men’s Chorus is ready to perform again, and this time, its show will be at Roxy’s Downtown. The show, titled “Love is Love 2nd Edition,” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. It follows the theme of the last “Love is Love” show but will feature all new music as well as a round of “The Newlywed Game.” The evening also will include food and drinks. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Reserve them by calling 316-202-8830 and leaving a message.

‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Ballet Wichita is taking over the stage at the Orpheum Theatre for two presentations of the ballet “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The show, inspired by Shakespeare’s play, will be staged at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. It will feature dancers performing to Felix Mendelssohn’s score and was created by Ballet Wichita’s artistic director and choreographer David Justin. Jackson Taylor & The Sinners

8 p.m. Friday, Cotillion Ballroom, 1112 0 W. Kellogg

Regular Wichita performers Jackson Taylor & the Sinners will bring their Texas outlaw style of music to the Cotillion, where they’ll take the stage after opening act Mike Love. The doors open at 7 p.m. on Friday, and showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are $17 at thecotillion.com

Harlem Globetrotters

3 p.m. Sunday, Intrust Bank Arena, 500 E. Waterman

The Harlem Globetrotters will return to Wichita on Sunday, this time bringing their 2023 World Tour. The show, which is at 3 p.m. at Intrust Bank Arena, will as always feature the Globetrotters going head-to-head with the Washington Generals and showing off all of their next-level basketball skills. The lineup includes both male and female players. Tickets are $20-$105, and fans can also add on meet-and-greet and pre-show passes for an additional cost.
