The weekend is jam-packed with activities as the summer hits full stride. From a riveting documentary to concerts and an anniversary event, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Milford school building turns 100, public invited to tour

As the former Milford school turns 100, former students are invited to attend an open house at the building, located at 59035 190th St., Nevada, which is now the private home of Dean and Dianne Jensen. The open house is Saturday, with original Milford families and neighbors invited from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and those who attended Milford as fifth and sixth graders invited from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Regular parking is east of the school. An elevator is available inside; park behind the school near the gym.

June Junk Jaunt is this weekend

Central Iowa Junk Jaunt presents its Spring Road Trip this weekend. The popular destination shopping experience features 22 vintage stops in Ames and surrounding small communities, such as Randall, Boone, Ellsworth, Gilbert, Stratford, Story City, Jewell and Cambridge. Now in its 15th year, the Junk Jaunt is a vintage shopping road trip with stops that include brick-and-mortar shops, barns, sheds and outdoor markets. Alluvial hosts two national acts

Two entertaining shows will be held this weekend at Alluvial Brewing Company as it hosts national acts on their way from the Blue Ox Festival in Wisconsin. Pixie and the Partygrass Boys will bring the bluegrass festival energy to the Alluvial stage Friday. Ames’ own Alleygrass will kick off at 7 p.m., with Pixie and the Partygrass Boys hitting the stage at 8 p.m. Jason Dea West & The Barn Swallows perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, providing a night of old-time folk and country blues with renowned troubadour Jason Dea West and mesmerizing trio The Barn Swallows. Camelot Theater showing ‘Shift: The RAGBRAI Documentary’

The historic Camelot Theater in Nevada is screening “Shift: The RAGBRAI Documentary” at 7 p.m. June 22-25 and at 2 p.m. June 25. Tickets are $8, with proceeds supporting the Camelot Theater Foundation and Des Moines Film. Co-directors Courtney Crowder and Kelsey Kremer from the Des Moines Register teamed up on this documentary, which tells the stories of three cyclists and two community leaders and their experiences with the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. The ride celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and includes Story County on its route, including an overnight stay in Ames.

Outdoor music plays Friday, Sunday in Ames area

  • Ames Jaycees host “Ames on the Half Shell” at Bandshell Park, with Burnin’ Sensations performing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is $5 cash; food and beverages will be available for purchase.

  • The Cellar Winery near Madrid offers free live music on Fridays and Sundays. Marc Bailey will perform From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Bob Pace Band will be featured from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

  • Burnin’ Sensations also performs Sunday as Prairie Moon Winery and Vineyards hosts live music at its Corn Crib stage from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. A $5 admission includes a free glass of sangria. Brick-oven pizzas, charcuterie boards and a wide range of beverages are available for purchase.

  • Roosevelt Summer Sundays’ free concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Roosevelt Park, with The RhythMatics performing. There’s no charge, but free-will donations will be accepted.
