Nissan unveiled the preview to its newest Z car, the Z Proto, on Tuesday. According to the company, the design is "close to final," meaning this is likely the car we'll be seeing in dealerships next year. With a wild squared-off grille, a retro silhouette, and a rear end inspired by the 300ZX, it's a vintage car lover's fantasy come to life. What are your thoughts on it?

Personally, I'm a fan. The Z Proto manages to capture its roots without being over-styled or messy. Nissan's designers were able to incorporate design aspects from several different past Z cars without making it feel cluttered or confused. That's a big achievement. While some might not like that massive, rectangular grille, I'm actually into it. It screams presence, and isn't too gaudy.

What I'm not so sure of is the rear end. I understand what they were going for, but having so many colors (red, black, the silver Nissan logo) bunched together in one place doesn't seem to jibe with the rest of the car's clean, understated approach.

Now we want to know: What do you think of the Z Proto? Is it worthy of wearing the Z name? Is that grille way too much for you? Not a fan of the throwback inspiration? We want to hear from you. Shout out in the comments below.
