The robotic eyeball was created by industrial designer Paeng Min-wook
(SOUNDBITE) (Korean) 28-YEAR-OLD SOUTH KOREAN INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER, PAENG MIN-WOOK, SAYING:
"The gyro sensor on the device can detect when a user bends his/her neck and that causes the 'eyelid' to open. This black component that looks like a pupil is an ultrasonic sensor, which can detect obstacles ahead and warn the user with a beeping sound."
The device is part of an artwork called "Phono Sapiens"
Paeng hopes the absurdity of the device will draw attention
to the severity of smartphone addiction

"This is the look of future mankind. As we cannot take our eyes off from our smartphones, I think the extra 'eye' will be needed in the future. By presenting this as the future look of humans, I want to warn the modern folks, especially those who are addicted to using their smartphones."
