Apple Valley recorded its third pedestrian fatality in less than two weeks after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle in town on Thanksgiving Day.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office on Friday had yet to release the name of the man, who was struck and killed as he walked along Kiowa Road.

On Saturday, the coroner's office had identified the deceased man as 70-year-old Tommy Walker of Apple Valley, who they say was struck while crossing Kiowa Road.

Sheriff’s investigators said they had not determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jackie Alban told the Daily Press on Friday.

The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station reported that at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies, the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response responded to a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.

The incident occurred on Kiowa Road south of Sioux Road, according to authorities. Local maps show the area just north of Bear Valley Road.

Upon arrival, deputies determined a gold Chevrolet Equinox was traveling north on Kiowa Road, passing Caddo Road, when the Equinox struck a man, while he walked northbound on Kiowa Road in the northbound lane.

Walker suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Equinox was uninjured and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation, the sheriff’s report said.

An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team arrived to conduct an investigation.

Kiowa Road was closed between Caddo and Sioux roads for approximately five hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed or been possibly involved in the collision is asked to contact Deputy J. Malocco at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.

Online maps show the collision area between Ottawa and Nisqually roads, just north of Bear Valley Road.

Upon arrival, deputies determined a white GMC Terrain had traveled south on Navajo Road and approached Ojai Road when it struck a pedestrian, later identified as Villanueva, who was walking westbound across Navajo Road in the number one southbound lane, the sheriff’s report said.

Villanueva suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The unidentified driver of the GMC remained there and cooperated with authorities, sheriff’s officials said.

Nicholas Dooley, Nov. 16

Nicholas Dooley, 25, of Apple Valley, died after being struck by two vehicles while walking after dark in the 16000 block of Dale Evans Parkway in Apple Valley, according to sheriff’s officials.

At 7:43 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 16, deputies, the AVFPD, and AMR responded to the incident in the 16000 block of Dale Evans Parkway in Apple Valley.

Deputies determined a white Chevrolet truck was traveling north on Dale Evans Parkway approaching Quantico Road when it hit Dooley, who was walking in the northbound lane of the same roadway.
