New Third Ward restaurant from Benson's Restaurant Group is coming to the former Wahlburgers spot in Milwaukee

The recently closed Wahlburgers restaurant in the Third Ward won't be vacant long. It's expected to be home to a new restaurant by summer.

Benson's Restaurant Group, which opened the popular Bridgewater Modern Grill in the Harbor District in the fall, will own and operate the restaurant at 322 N. Broadway. The group operates three other restaurants in the Third Ward.

A name and theme for the restaurant will be announced later, but Benson's announced it is having the Rinka architecture firm and ADK Design overhaul the space.

The new restaurant will have nearly 3,500 square feet of dining space, and diners will be able to dine outside in the summer.

Benson's said it expects to hire 60 people for the new restaurant.

“Our team is absolutely thrilled to be bringing another restaurant option to the Third Ward, a location we consider home,” David Marcus, CEO of Benson’s Restaurant Group, said in announcing the restaurant.

Benson’s Restaurant Group, previously known as Hospitality Democracy, is a division of Marcus Investments. Its other restaurants, besides the Bridgewater Modern Grill, are Onesto, Blue Bat Kitchen and Tequilaria, and Smoke Shack in the Third Ward, and AJ Bombers downtown. The group also operates the suburban Zaffiro’s pizzas.
