A girl who is deaf in one ear has come up with a totally cool way to remind people she’s hard of hearing. Growing tired of pointing out which ear to talk to her in, Imgur user raingoose came up with the genius idea of getting a tiny tattoo of a speaker icon and an X just behind her left earlobe.

Uploading a picture of her new ink to the photo sharing site, she explained with the caption: ‘Since I’m deaf in one ear I thought this was a friendly way to tell the world not to talk to me from the left.’

The post has since had nearly 3 million views and 999 comments. Many applauded the cute way of avoiding confusion, while others queries why raingoose, who lost her hearing when she was ‘very young’, had chosen a speaker rather than a microphone.

Explaining that she’d given careful consideration to the right symbol to choose before she got marked for life, she wrote: ‘I thought that people won’t talk to me if I chose the mic.’

‘Or rather, that they think i cannot speak at all. I may be a stutterer, but I can still articulate myself:-),’ she added.

‘Be sure that I thought this through and after weeks of thinking I decided that this symbol describes it the best.’

The post encouraged others to share how they’ve dealt with the same problem. This user has a microphone crossed out [Photo: Imgur/pawsed]

And raingoose’s post inspired others to share photos of their own clever ways to remind people that they are hard of hearing. Uber Paswed posted a pic of his crossed out microphone tattoo in front of the photo of raingoose’s post. While User presswandres posted the photo of his tattoo that simply reads: 'deaf.'

Others have chosen to side step inking for an alternative method of letting people know they are deaf. One said they got just the one ear pierced – ‘if you can see the earring, then I’m hearing’.

Raingoose also had a heartwarming message of support to others who are heard of hearing or deaf. ‘I know – it sucks so bad, but eventually you’ll get used to it and it will be a tiny little thing that is a part of you.’
