This is how Canadians have been bundling up for the last 100 years

We’ve seen what a 100 years of beauty looks like in Ethiopia, Germany, Russia and many other parts of the world, but so far no one has tackled the diverse nation that is Canada – until now.

And perhaps that’s because most of the world can’t imagine how we even survive this frozen tundra. Like, what do we even look like under all of those layers? Taking this into account, “22 Minutes” pulled together a video spanning 1900 to 2010, showing how we do it in the north.

While it’s called 100 Years of Canadian Beauty, it really should be called 100 Years of Canadians bundling up.

Despite the final looks, the video does give a few quick glimpses of fashion and beauty from each era, before it quickly disappears under layers of heavy scarves, hats and jackets.

We get fur accents in the 1930s, exaggerated brows in the ‘40s, winged eyeliner and florals in the ‘60s, some Farrah Fawcett waves in the ‘70s, and Christina Aguilera – circa “Dirrty” days – grey-blonde hair with braids in the 1990s.

It’s subtle, but it’s there.
