Thomas Beaver Free Library nears fundraising goal

Jan. 24—DANVILLE — The Thomas Beaver Free Library in Danville is "tantalizingly" close to reaching its fundraising goal to cover operating costs for the year, according to Library Director Kathleen McQuiston.

The goal for the library's annual appeal is $50,000. As of Monday, they had received $44,460 from 258 donors, according to the director.

"We are very grateful for all the donations we have received so far," McQuiston said. "The support from the community has been overwhelming."

Funds raised through the appeal will help the library continue to provide free resources, tools and programs to the community. The $50,000 amount should cover the cost of library materials, programming and utilities, according to McQuiston.

Marie Eiswerth, president of the Board of Trustees for the library, said the historic Danville library is a gem in the community.

"The Thomas Beaver Free Library, like all public libraries, provides citizens equal opportunity to utilize services free of economic or political incentives. In addition to high-speed Wi-Fi, computers, and faxing, there are programs for toddlers, teens, and older adults," she said. "I am grateful to donors who support our mission to 'encourage lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity...'"

Eiswerth added private donations are the library's primary source of funding.

Kay Roth, member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Fundraising Committee, said it's often easy to take places like the library for granted, but they are dearly missed when gone.

"Being a board member has opened my eyes to how many people use this building, and the memories they share, the people they help, and all the changes coming are so exciting," Roth said. "It would be so beneficial if we could all give something toward keeping this unique historical building running for generations to come."

Donations to the library can be made by mailing a check to the Thomas Beaver Free Library at 317 Ferry St. in Danville or online at tbflibrary.org.
