Thomas Markle's Reaction to Meghan and Harry's Royal Exit Is Predictably Shady

As if there wasn't already enough drama amid Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's recent departure from royal life, the duchess's estranged father, Thomas, is adding more fuel to the fire.

In a new interview with the U.K.'s Channel 5, Thomas weighed in on his daughter and son-in-law's decision to step back as senior members of the monarchy, and, in classic Thomas fashion, he offered his take on the situation in the shadiest way possible.

"It's disappointing because she actually got every girl's dream," Thomas says in footage from the show, according to E! News. "Every young girl wanted to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that away, for, it looks like she's tossing that away for money." Ouch.

His attack on the couple continued, as he went on to say that Meghan and Harry are "cheapening" the royal family with their new roles.

"It's kind of embarrassing to me. When they got married, they took on an obligation and the obligation is to be part of the royals and to represent the royals and it would be foolish for them not to. This is like one of the greatest, long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it," he said. "They are cheapening it. They're making it shabby. They are turning it into a Walmart with a crown of it now. It is something that is ridiculous. They shouldn't be doing this."

The 75-year-old concluded his comments by calling both Meghan and Harry "lost souls," adding, "I don't know what they're looking for."

Meanwhile, the Queen (whose opinion is really the only one that matters) is in full support of the couple. In a personal statement released over the weekend, Her Majesty thanked Meghan and Harry for their service and gave a special shout-out to Archie's mom. "I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family," she said.

At least Meghan can count on the Queen to be in her corner.
