In a vote that ended May 13, Dispatch.com readers selected the Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from May 2-8.

This week's winner is Thomas Worthington softball player Katie Niven.

Niven went 7 for 9 in three games.

Niven received 51.1% of the vote and was followed by Dublin Scioto softball player Taylor Henry (18.4%), Delaware Christian softball player Krista Haskins (12.8%), Olentangy Liberty lacrosse player Lexi Byrd (11.3%) and Olentangy track and field athlete Reilly Worthington (6.4%).

Last week's winner: Olentangy Orange's Mia Harrington named Columbus area high school athlete of the week.

Henry, the runner-up, batted .417 last week and as a pitcher earned three wins with an 1.01 ERA, one shutout and 27 strikeouts. She pitched both games of the Dublin Tri, helping Scioto win for the first time since 2016.

Haskins pitched a perfect game in a 17-0 win over Genoa Christian and went 3 for 3 batting with a single, double and two-run homer. On the mound, she struck out 10 of the 15 batters she faced and assisted on three of the five other outs.

Byrd scored her 100th career goal in a 14-13 win at Cincinnati Mariemont. She scored four goals in the game and has 46 goals and six assists this season.

Worthington broke his own program record in the shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 1 inch at the Delaware County Invitational. Worthington has broken the record, which stood since 1967, three times this season. His previous best was 55-5.
