Thomasville P.E.O. Chapter awards scholarships

Jul. 21—THOMASVILLE- Each year, the P.E.O. chapter in the Thomasville community recognizes two outstanding young women. Thomasville's local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization presented the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship to Macy Taylor and the P.E.O. Georgia State Scholarship to Olivia Gainey for the 2023-2024 academic year. The scholarships were presented at the Thomasville High School senior awards ceremony by Dona Evans, local chapter president.

Taylor, the daughter of Russ and Lisa Taylor, has been accepted to and will attend Georgia Southwestern State University, where she plans to major in Marketing.

Gainey, the daughter of Amelie Landry, has been accepted to and will attend Georgia College and State University, where she plans to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Since its inception in 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, P.E.O. has become one of the largest community-based organizations, proudly sponsoring six international philanthropies designed to assist women with their educational goals. With almost 6,000 chapters and nearly 230,000 members in the U.S. and Canada, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 122,000 women pursue educational goals by providing nearly $415 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans. The Sisterhood also owns and supports Cottey College, a fully accredited private liberal arts and sciences college for women, with two-year and selected four-year programs, located in Nevada, Missouri.
