Thomasville's Barrett commits to Chipola

Jun. 23—THOMASVILLE — Thomasville High School pitcher Ethan Barrett has committed to Chipola College. The Bulldogs fiery lefty made the commitment earlier in the week to head to the two-year college, just an hour and a half away from Thomasville in Marianna, Florida.

Barrett, who has become known for his eccentricities on the mound, had a great year this past season. He put on impressive performances, including a 15 strikeout game against Peach County in the playoffs. Now, Barrett is looking to continue his career on the diamond at the next level.

The upcoming senior has done very well on the bump for the Bulldogs, improving on the mound year after year. His velocity has reached as high as 87 mph and his curve and change up have clocked in the 70's. With another year in high school before he heads off to college, it is very possible that Barrett could get his velocity about 90.

Chipola is an excellent place for Barrett to hone his skills as he moves to the next level of competition. The Indians performed well last season, going 27-24, but what is more notable is what their program has produced. Not only have they sent many players to four-year programs, Chipola College has produced a fair amount of MLB talent. That includes, Toronto Blue Jays legend and 2010 and 2014 American League Silver Slugger award winner Jose Bautista.
