Thousand Oaks Teen Center reopens with a blast

The Alex Fiore Thousand Oaks Teen Center hosted a grand reopening concert Friday night to celebrate the completion of its recent remodeling.

The interior now has updated floors, bathrooms and a commercial kitchen, said Sarah Daub, teen services director. The exterior had even greater changes with the addition of a skate park, full-size basketball court with adjustable hoops, benches, barbecues and a stage.

"Before construction, the 'backyard' was basically dirt and grass," Daub said. "There wasn't a lot there for programming."

The teen center, located at 1375 E. Janss Road, closed for remodeling in March 2022 after briefly reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interior renovations were completed in November and exterior construction finished in February. The center is funded by the city and administered by the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

Friday's concert featured a free performance by the band Sitting On Stacy, who toured with the Jonas Brothers in 2021. Pizza, soda and churros were provided to attendees free of charge.
