Thousands in Brevard County lost power early Tuesday morning

More than 7,600 people were without electricity early Tuesday morning in Brevard County.

According to USA Today-Florida Network's power outage tracker map, 7,677 people were without power at 5 a.m.

By 6 a.m., the number had dropped to 585.

According to Florida Power & Light's power outage map, multiple outages were scattered between Rockledge and Palm Shores at 8 a.m.

Late Tuesday afternoon, FP&L released this statement about the outages:

"We are aware of a series of brief power outages that occurred this morning impacting some of our customers in Brevard County. Each outage lasted less than a minute. All customers have been restored. We apologize for the inconvenience.

"The cause of the outages remains under investigation."

How long does food last in a refrigerator or freezer after the power goes out?

A refrigerator will keep food cold for four hours after the power goes out, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

A full freezer will hold its temperature for about 48 hours. A half-full freezer will keep food cold for about 24 hours.

Avoid opening the doors as much as possible to keep the cool air in.
