Thousands of people once again took to the streets across Germany to protest right-wing extremism on Saturday.

According to the police, around 3,500 people took part in a demonstration in the western German city of Bochum which was dubbed "Bochum in solidarity - hand in hand against the right."

In Bordesholm in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein, some 2,500 people took to the streets to protest right-wing extremism.

In the eastern city of Magdeburg, people demonstrated with banners, rainbow flags, soap bubbles and music. Crafted and self-designed signs read "Respect instead of exclusion," "Nazis are shit" and "Diversity without alternative."

According to the police, up to 3,000 people gathered in Magdeburg. The organizers spoke of around 6,000 participants.

Other events with several hundred participants each took place in Bernau and Gaggenau in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg.

According to police reports, more than 1,000 people demonstrated in Berlin against an event with former Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician André Poggenburg.

For weeks, tens of thousands of people have been taking to the streets all over Germany to protest against right-wing extremism.

The protests were triggered by a report by the investigative media outlet Correctiv about a meeting of radical right-wingers in Potsdam on November 25, which was also attended by AfD politicians as well as individual members of the mainstream conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) and the very conservative Values Union, or WerteUnion in German.
