Thousands Gathered in Chechnya to Celebrate Putin's 70th Birthday

Thousands of people gathered in Grozny, Chechnya, on Friday, October 7, to celebrate President Vladimir Putin’s 70th birthday, satellite imagery captured by Maxar Technologies shows.

Russian state media reported that Chechnya Head Ramzan Kadyrov was a part of a “festive lineup” of more than 20,000 military personnel to honor the president.

Satellite imagery provided by Maxar Technologies, which they said was captured on Friday, shows thousands at a rally in Grozny.

International leaders, including Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, wished Putin a happy birthday, according to the Russian government. Credit: Maxar Technologies via Storyful
