There is no shortage of jobs available in the Peoria area for those who are looking for work.

The Greater Peoria Economic Development Council's job board lists 1,669 job opening across 107 companies.

Indeed lists 7,273 jobs within 35 miles of Peoria.

Here's some of the hiring highlights from the Peoria-area.

Health care jobs in Peoria

Peoria's burgeoning healthcare industry is fast-growing, pumping millions of dollars into new buildings and developments and is also doing a ton of hiring.

OSF HealthCare told the Journal Star it has 900 job openings in Peoria and the surrounding area.

Registered nurses across all departments are in high demand at OSF HealthCare, with 226 openings for nursing jobs.

OSF has been actively using different recruiting tools and incentives to try and fill all those open positions.

Likewise, Carle Health has 354 job openings, according to the GPEDC job board. Carle Health has 52 job openings for registered nurses in the Peoria area.

In an effort to fill its extensive nursing positions, OSF says it partnered with Guild,

Outside of nursing, OSF HealthCare has 145 openings in clinical support services and 114 job openings in imaging and radiology.

OSF too has launched a partnership with Illinois Central College, offering stipends and scholarships which cover the full cost for students in programs such as ultrasound, surgical tech, CNA and respiratory therapy.

Manufacturing jobs in Peoria

The manufacturing industry has long been a staple in the Peoria area, and those interested in a career in manufacturing can find plenty of job openings.

Caterpillar Inc. has 94 job openings in the Peoria area, according to the GPEDC job board. Jobs at Caterpillar include a plethora of engineering positions but also jobs in finance, distribution and student trainee positions.

Komatsu also has 22 openings in the Peoria area that include a number of jobs paying above $30/hour including assembly technicians, engineers, electricians and welders.

Education jobs in Peoria

Illinois Central College and a handful of other higher education institutions and school districts are seeking applications for a wide range of positions.

Illinois Central College has 44 job openings, according to the GPEDC job board, that include multiple instructor and faculty positions and associate dean openings.

The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine has 25 job openings in Peoria. A majority of those are for associate professors, but the college is also hiring some research assistants, clinical assistants and an office manager.

Eureka College has 12 job openings, covering a number of different specialties, including athletics, enrollment and instruction.

The Peoria Public School District has 109 full-time job openings listed on its website. District 150 is seeking teachers across all levels, substitutes, paraprofessionals, maintenance workers and a host of other positions.

Teaching careers with Peoria Public Schools start at $48,969/ per year and offer a $2,000 retention bonus.

Government jobs in Peoria

City and county governments in the Peoria area are hiring.

Peoria County has 16 job openings that include multiple positions at the juvenile detention center, a records and clerical receptionist with the Sheriff's Department paying a minimum of $15.79/hour and an assistant state's attorney position beginning at $65,000/year.

The city of Peoria has 14 job openings, many of which are with the police department, including lateral transfer opportunities for officers, police officers, and a police records technician. Police officer positions begin at $67,594/year.

Not interested in law enforcement? The city of Peoria is also hiring a grants coordinator, a youth program coordinator, inspectors and more.

The city of Pekin has eight job openings, including for a police officer, payroll coordinator, human resources director and more.

Woodford County has seven job openings, including public health nurse, corrections deputy, patrol deputy and civil engineer.

The city of East Peoria is hiring four positions, including a firefighter, group fitness instructor paying $20/hour and an assistant finance director.
