Thousands of pounds of pork rinds recalled by Charlotte-based importer

Nearly 5,000 pounds of pork rinds that were sold in North Carolina and South Carolina are being recalled.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that Charlotte-based Capitology, LLC, is recalling about 4,679 pounds of pork chicharrones.

The products are labeled “Rica Sula TAJADITAS con CHICHARRON Platanos Con Chicharron.” Rica Sula is a Honduras-based snack company that makes a variety of products, including tortilla chips.

According to the USDA, the chicharrones are being recalled because Honduras is not eligible to export pork products to the United States. As of Monday, no adverse effects had been reported after consuming the chicharrones.

Capitology describes itself as a “master importer and distributor of Central American and Hispanic major brands.” Its website lists several other products for sale from Rica Sula.

The USDA says the pork rinds were sold in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

If you have some of the pork rinds, the USDA says to either throw them away or return them.
