Get Thready: NBC Just Revealed the Contestants for ‘Making It’ Season 2

Get thready: America’s favorite television duo will be back in action in just a few weeks. (And no, we’re not talking about Chip and Jo's new show.) On December 2, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman will be back to host Season 2 of the hit NBC show, Making Itand the next batch of contestants was announced this morning.

If you missed the first season, it’s not too late to catch up: Season one will be available on Hulu beginning November 25. Last July, Making It premiered with 5.2 million viewers, as America fell in love with the competition-style crafting show. Eight contestants competed for the title of Master Maker by completing a variety of challenges judged by Etsy’s trend expert Dayna Isom Johnson and the Creative Ambassador-at-Large for Barneys New York, Simon Doonan.

And don’t worry, we won’t reveal any spoilers—but we do have a sneak peek into the upcoming season.

We caught up with judge Dayna Isom Johnson to learn about what it was like to film the first season and ask her about the upcoming episodes. She told us her favorite part of being a judge was working with some of the most talented makers across the country and seeing their skills brought to life. “There’s something about seeing an impressive project come to life before your very eyes that awakens the aspiring maker in all of us,” she says. “Our hope is that when viewers watch Making It, they are motivated to create items similar to what they see in each episode or take on any new DIY project.”

In the digital age of instant gratification, it’s easy to get caught up in home renovation shows that depict a month-long project coming together in about 25 minutes. And while we love to watch a good demo day, the first season of Making It inspired people with projects that feel attainable.

Season 1 contestant Amber Kemp-Gerstel of Damask Love told us she gets messages and emails every week from viewers of the show who were inspired to take on a project in their own lives. The challenges in season 1 were projects like building a terrarium and transforming a backyard shed—all projects that the average viewer could complete in a day.

“Unlike other television shows, Making It draws you in for 60 minutes then encourages you to turn off the television and make something with your own hands,” Kemp-Gerstel says.

And as for the challenges ahead in season 2? “Without giving away too many details, there are so many projects that people can get inspired by, whether it’s taking on each week’s challenge at home or adding a DIY to touch to their everyday lives,” Isom Johnson says.

And luckily, you won’t have to wait long to find out even more: The contestants for the upcoming season were announced on the Making It Instagram account this morning.

We asked Kemp-Gerstel if she had any advice for the new round of contestants: "Do you, boo!" she says. “Show us who you are creatively and show us what makes you shine. Long after the show is over, this is what people will want from you.”
